I really hate these lazy articles that don't actually provide the evidence to their claims especially when so many are reluctant to believe what they read these days

lol what a farce.

Many people at the rally told the BBC they worked in the public sector and had been pressured into attending by their employers.

One man who works in the Moscow metro said he and other employees had been forced to attend the rally.

The same goes for Johnson. And Starmer. And Sturgeon. And Corbyn. And Clinton. And Biden. And Harris. And Trudeau. And Macron. And Le Pen. And pretty much every other senior politician; they all have supporters in whose eyes they can do no wrong.
Of course. The only difference is one is raising taxes and other is bombing random countries. There’s a breaking point even to hard core believer’s but when you brain wash and block people from real information things turn funny.

Turns out state TV cut out just before Putin finished the speech. He quoted Fyodor Ushakov, the legendary Tsarist-era admiral who is now the patron saint of Russia’s strategic nuclear bomber fleet, and lef

If Putin got wiped out and replaced with a more democratic leader hopefully the Russians and everyone around would get better lives.

Russians don't want democracy, they want a strong man who can return them to the long lost glories of Greater Russia. That's why Putin is so popular.

There are those that believe Putin was almost goaded into this.

What's the argument here? How exactly was Putin 'goaded into this'? Did somebody twist his arm behind his back and threaten to break his elbow if he didn't invade Ukraine? And when did this alleged goading occur? Was it this year, or in 2014, when he first invaded Ukraine?

Question, why did Russia agree to let go of Ukraine in the 90s if they felt this strongly about them being part of Russian and has been part of their history for centuries?

Because (a) Ukraine offered to return all the Russian nuclear weapons stationed on her soil, and (b) Russia was confident that she could recapture Ukraine at a later date.

And here we are.

Those that were invaded did -

France did
Holland did
Belgium did
Luxembourg did
Denmark did
Norway did
Poland did
Yugoslavia did
Greece did

All these countries were invaded by Hitler, as in they had actual Germans fighting in the streets of their cities, and all had Governments who surrendered to stop the carnage, some almost immediately and some after fighting for a while.

The countries that surrendered quickly were the tiny ones with no capacity to resist the German war machine. Surrender was the only option. This is not the case with Ukraine.

Poland was defeated after losing 87% of her army (Ukraine's army has lost nowhere near that percentage) but she never surrendered, and remained officially at war with Germany until the end of WWII.

France did not surrender either. Her president resigned after refusing to surrender, and the Third Republic was replaced by the Pétain dictatorship, which signed an armistice agreeing to Nazi collaboration. Despite this, France remained officially at war with Germany, and continued to fight her via the Resistance.

I think their disposable army's decimated, but if Putin pulls seasoned troops from areas where he can now be sure NATO's never going to be a threat

But which areas would those be? Where does Putin have seasoned soldiers stationed in places he previously believed to be under threat from NATO?

They NEED to come up with a diplomatic solution. Zelensky will have to swallow the bitter, illegal pill that is seeding territory to Russia and Putin will have to accept that Zelensky will remain in power. Both parties have a vested interest in ending this early, but none more so then Ukraine. The killing has to stop. It's awful and disgusting, but NOTHING is worth the price of dead children.

And what stops Putin invading again? We already know that treaties and agreements mean nothing to him. He tore those up in 2014, when he first invaded Ukraine.

Given his recent speeches Putin has gone full tyrant with some shades of fascism - you, I, Ukrainians who don't embrace Russia, Russians who don't embrace his grand vision are all a lower class, to come to a compromise agreement with a lower class for Putin would be humiliating - any agreement made would be sooner or later for the benefit of Putin. Hence I don't think he is interested in an off-ramp or saving face as some would suggest and no diplomatic solution as you said would be worth anything.

Do Russian cosmonauts normally have yellow and blue suits? I don't remember seeing anything like them on previous ISS arrivals.

Looks like there doing it to support Ukraine ...If they are Putin going to be going nuts

Russian cosmonauts wear Ukraine colours to International Space Station (msn.com)
Oleg Artemyev was asked about the yellow flight suits when the newly arrived cosmonauts were able to talk to family back on Earth.
He said every crew chooses its own flight suits, so that they are not all the same.

“It became our turn to pick a colour. But in fact, we had accumulated a lot of yellow material so we needed to use it. So that’s why we had to wear yellow,” he said.

A mate of mine in the UK, his wife went to a swimming pool last week.
Fire alarm went off. They got everyone outside asap.

Freezing cold, 3 of them standing there with towels, a lady came up to them and said she lived round the corner would they like to come over, warm up and head back later to collect their belongings.

Anyway, when they were leaving, my mates wife said "you have a lovely accent, where are you from?"
Nervous, she replied, "Russian" and then broke down in tears.

Yup. We had that with Chinese when covid kicked off etc. People are just so narrow minded.

Sorry, who was narrow minded in that story? Did I miss the bit where his wife refused to go with her?

Ermmm.. that will be a firm no from me.

Russia needs to back the chuff off, or face harder consequences.

Putin started this fight, and he'll end up dead unless he backs off.

Agreed. Putin is a loose cannon at this point. He won't stop until it can be said they were victorious in this conflict. Losing face in front of his own people will be devastating to his image and ego.

On a separate note, supposing NATO had reacted with military force as soon as Russia set foot in Ukraine, what do we think the likely outcome would have been? Would it really have escalated to nuclear war, in which there are no winners, so it's use would mean annihilation for either side?
