Well the damage to Syria is somewhere far north of $100 billion which they cannot really ever hope to deal with even with their pre-war economy and certainly not with a shattered post-war one which is constantly burdened by corruption as well as reprisals.
Ukraine will likely end up in a similar position which will be a huge problem for Russia as they've already seen the drain that Crimea and the two breakaway regions have costed them, just one big liability along with numerous others as the sanctions will almost certainly never be lifting if they manage to take control of the country.

Ok, but that doesnt change the fact that west lied, the fog of war is called fog for a reason. In this case the prelude of war is not a simplified explanation "russia lied again and again", all parties are to blame. Russia ofcourse is the villain but this war didnt appear out of nowhere all of a sudden, there are reasons behind it going back many years.
Doesn't surprise me, the capital must be an absolute fortress at this point. Given the difficulty Russia have had in places like Mariupol, which is likely to fall soon, then the bigger cities will be exponentially harder. Kharkiv is pretty much holding out and it's on the border with a primarily Russian speaking population!
Russia's air power has been cut back to high altitude fighters launching from outside Ukraine. The only cover they'll have moving on the cities is from drones and artillery at the rear. Hope they break their backs trying.
Interesting Slovakia is getting patriot batteries installed. I wonder if the mig transfer might ever happen once those countries are happy they've got air cover?
People assumed they would run out a week ago yet they are still going.
In the mean time, Ukrainian civillians are being bombed, being gunned down, starving, fleeing the country looking for strangers to home them, some are even getting caught by sex trafficking gangs in Romania.
This truly is a terrible time for these people.
It will be even worse if they concede.

I don't think anyone assumed they would outright run out, just that they were close to using up what they'd stockpiled for this 'operation'. But it's a fact that they don't have unlimited missiles, and a researcher in this article (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/19/...ong-range-missiles-to-devastating-effect.html) estimates they made about 120 in 2018.
For sure they have a large amount but a) they won't want to use everything in case they're needed elsewhere (hello ww3) b) they are expensive even without sanctions, replacing them now is going to hurt c) as I said before they can be shot down just like planes can, so aren't always effective.
Yes it's a horrendous time for Ukrainian people everywhere no doubt. But I've seen a couple of polls recently (of course it's hard to gauge how extensive/representative these are) stating that ~90% of Ukrainians want to keep fighting. It's not for you or I to tell them to stop and accept being under the thumb of an oppressive regime, especially in light of everything they've sacrificed so far.

I wouldn't ever ask them to fight to the death, I was just mentioning the plight of the Ukrainian people which doesn't get a mention often enough.
It was just yesterday I saw on Sky news that so many Ukrainians who had escaped the war had been caught by sex trafficking gangs.
I can't even imagine how that must make those who stayed behind to fight feel, to watch their wives and daughters leave the country to live with strangers, not knowing if they will ever see them again, not knowing if they will even escape the war zone or survive the journey only to get caught by some scummy sex traffickers in Romania.
These people need more help, this should never happen.

Ukrainian army won't forget the last time the Russians offered them a safe corridor to leave. Almost all of them were killed.
We all know the plight of the Ukrainian people right now, it's horrifying. Only Russian apologists would think otherwise. But if they as a country want to keep fighting then it's not for us to sit here doom mongering about their prospects whilst urging them to cede massive parts of their country to a dictator hell bent on recreating an empire. He'll only come back for the rest a few years down the line anyway if what's left of the country looks like wanting to make progress. They don't really have any easy choices left: fight and die with a chance of 'winning' (read: not end up a vassal state to Russia) or surrender and become oppressed. It's all ******.
