Sounds like a peace deal will be struck soon to be honest. I think Russia may have realised that there is nothing to be gained from continuing this nonsense.

I bet the French can't wait for the conflict to be over so they can carry on doing business with Russia they won't even say what weapons they have sent to Ukraine in fear of upsetting the Russians they are absolutely bloody useless and have done nothing to help the Ukrainians.

Typical behaviour from the cheese eating surrender monkeys. You think the UK is a **** show and then France says “Hold my beer”…

can we just have Obama back for one week? just have a
little chat with Vlad, sorted in one afternoon.
No thanks. During his re-election against Mitt Romney, Romney said in one of the debates that Russia and Putin were the number 1 one threats to the west. Obama mocked Romney over his position on Russia yet within months after the debate Russia went to aid Assad in Syria and Obama made it clear that is Russia was found to have used chemical weapons on civilians that was a clear red line and NATO would response. Of course Russia then went and dropped chemical weapons on the people of Aleppo and there was zero response and those red lines were quickly forgotten about. Two years latter Russia invaded Ukraine stealing land and causing the eastern part to split away and Obama strong arms Ukraine into signing the Minsk agreement which was never really honoured by the separatists. Obama may have had some good ideas for domestic politics but his foreign policy record is diabolical and his judgement is poor (you could even argue he was the difference maker in pushing the British public into voting for Brexit with this 'back of the line' speech).

Theres no chance of peace, not without Ukrain losing the Dombas area.

Putin now knows taking all Ukrain is impossible so will now concentrate on the Dombas, he has already said as much and will push for a victory one way or another.

The talks are just a smoke screen. The battle for Mariupol will be the deciding factor in this war now.

Any one who trusts anything Putin promises are fools, but they already know that.

Putin is furious at the embarasment he has suffered, if he survives this there will be revenge further down the line.

Supporting the Syrian government at their request was awful by Russia. Much better to have armed the Jihadis. Wish we’d of win that one. That’s be a great country now. Libya II or ****er?

Some of the OSINT observers have been linking the drawdown in the north with a renewed build up which seems aimed at a concentrated thrust at Izium likely as an attempt to cement their gains in the south.

Likely they'll need some kind of distraction still in the north though to avoid Ukraine being able to commit a significant amount of forces to push back in the south.

Well I'm sure they could exploit enough of the territory North and East of Kyiv to ensure a timeline for their defence and additionally take the opportunity to degrade Russia's ability to encircle the JFO, the problem is that Russia is pincering from both directions whilst also keeping up pressure from the republics. I don't see how Ukraine can deal with all of these forces without effectively abandoning some positions in the East so the JFO can retreat or take more necessary positions to avoid further loss of territory that they can definitely defend.

I sincerely doubt Ukraine can afford to completely lose it's biggest, battle-hardened force to an encirclement and they will have to make a tough call soon about whether they're willing to risk everything on keeping those positions or accepting that they need those forces to fully reorganise their defence.

I can't remember exact numbers now but Ukraine has only something like 37K out of 103K or something like that territorial/reserve (with recent training) forces in combat roles, some of the rest are in logistic/support roles others possibly lack sufficient training, etc. but Ukraine still has a lot of man power available to it.

There are complications in respect you can't just chuck someone in a fighter jet or in control of an advanced anti-aircraft platform, etc. but with a bit of breathing room Ukraine can likely scale up its forces somewhat still.

If there's a peace deal then I don't envy Zelensky telling thousands of armed Ukrainian citizens, many of whom who have recently seen their families blown to bits, had their homes destroyed and who have witnessed countless other atrocities by invading Russians, to stand down and stop killing the invaders.

Maybe many will be glad to see the bloodshed stop and the opportunity to start to rebuild their lives

I suspect that Russia may have tried that but Ukraine want the option of being independent.. Russia hope that their balance of funds will be to the $68bn of damage rather than buying weapons.. that makes it's easier for Invasion 2.0.

Eh? Russia may have tried what? I'm not sure what you're referring to there but it doesn't seem very relevant to the post you quoted.

To be clear my post is about NATO supplying Ukraine with the tanks/planes (MiGs etc..) that were asked for and that Poland was willing to give up. I'm not sure what that has to do with what you just posted or what you mean there.
