Russia cannot be allowed to gain anything from this war and the Ukrainians themselves can force them out if given all the support and weapons they need for that. Right now they're just getting enough to survive rather than win - enough for a stalemate. MAybe that's what the West wants but if Putin's mate Xi eyes this as a successful venture he'll be right into Taiwan.

Putin is at least as scared of nuclear war as NATO; he's just relying on us buying into his empty threats to keep us out of the war. It won't escalate into nuclear war; instead Putin will back down, just as he did in Georgia.
 
Dont get why just regular weapons are being sent to ukraine? Why not supply them with long range missiles that can hit moscow? Bet that would send the Russians packing.

If the aim from West is to prevent anything escalating into WW3, I think giving Ukraine weapons capable of hitting Moscow and them actually doing it would be a sure fire way to guarantee WW3

Our *fear* of WW3 seems to be the most powerful weapon Putin has.

I'm guessing taking POW's or otherwise treating captured enemy personnel humanely is a relatively recent thing.
Certainly watching some of the recent Saxon period dramas, presumably with a basis in reality, any enemy wounded left on the field were finished off and no prisoners were taken. Those that did manage to surrender were simply killed, unless they had value as slaves or hostages.

Russia now executing all the men between 16-60 in Bucha with their hands tied behind their backs and left outside the front of each house, and raping the women girls, also putting children on tanks as human sheilds.

I hope the West/NATO/EU/UK/US are proud of their cowardice and appeasement over the last 20 year and all those lovely bribes from the Oligarchs.

I don't see much of a difference between a Ukrainian pulling the trigger on a British gifted weapon and a British soldier pulling that same trigger. I wonder how much of a difference Putin sees? Anti-tank weapons are one thing, long range missiles completely different. If British/NATO weapons (fired by a Ukrainian) landed in Moscow, we could expect retaliation in London.

No, actually, through the medieval period it was normal to treat captives well and ransom them back - although the likes of Richard "the Lionheart" didn't extend that to Muslims. In the Napoleon era captured officers, at least, could be expected to be treated very well. And then you get cultures like Aztecs, so all a bit mixed but certainly not a purely modern invention.

Bravo sir, this has to win the award for the most amount of tripe fit into a single post on the OCUK forums. Evidence coming through of mass murder and war crimes... yeah but what about the people who did the killing, they must have had a really bad day too...

Unless we handed Trident (never going to happen) or Tomahawks (which really need a sub or ship to launch) - again not going to happen - there aren't NATO weapons which we could give Ukraine to hit Moscow.

We are at a point now though where there is an opportunity to at least enforce the current situation in the West where Russia have all but withdrawn - Putin doesn't want to start a nuclear war anymore than we do
