Imola Circuit

The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, better known as Imola, is a 4.909 km (3.050 mi) motor racing circuit in the town of Imola, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, 40 km (25 mi) east of Bologna.

It is one of the few major international circuits to run in an anti-clockwise direction.

The circuit is named after Ferrari's late founder, Enzo Ferrari, and his son, Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari, who died in 1956 at age 24. Before Enzo's death, it was called Autodromo Dino Ferrari. The circuit has an FIA Grade 1 license.

It was the venue for the San Marino GP between 1982 and 2006 and returned to the calendar in 2020 to help fill gaps due to Covid-19, it has since regained its regular slot on the calendar with a race in 2021 and now a contract to host F1 until 2025.

I will say too, I like the Sprint weekends - nice to see some meaningful action on a Friday but I almost wish they would swap the Sprint race and Practice Session on Say - do the race first and then give them a session to practice - half the car’s don’t want to go out in the morning practice ahead of the Sprint.

4pm qualifying on a Friday when most people won't be able to watch. followed by these farcical sprint races. Yeah nice one F1. Bunch of money grabbers.

Pole Position is at least back to being whoever is fastest in Q3.

Also more points for the Sprint races:
1st 8 points
2nd 7 points
3rd 6 points
4th 5 points
5th 4 points
6th 3 points
7th 2 points
8th 1 point

But the sprint race results still form the grid for the race on Sunday, right? Believe the fastest Q3 time gets called pole position just for the record books. Or have I misunderstood

I continue to dislike these Sprint Races for reasons we've all discussed at length before but if it really is wet, it could be fun. Both in that the sprint is more entertaining, and in that wet conditions are likely to lead to spins and crashes putting drivers out of position for the race proper. A wet Friday quali could also mix things up.

wonder what the new cars will be like in the wet!
Given how hard the cars look to keep on the road so far, I'm expecting chaos!

Sprint might be slightly more entertaining since there's not a championship on the line (yet), but I still think it's a gigantic waste of time. The new pole/not-pole-actually thing is just absurd... :o

If its a wet weekend I wonder whether that may play in to Mercedes hands? They appear to run a higher ride height than the other leading teams due to the porpoising and normally during wet running the teams run higher ride heights.. maybe they won't be impacted by this as much as the other teams and therefore be closer in laptime that the first 3 races.

I'd assume that the other teams are well able to tweak rideheight to suit conditions, though? It's only if conditions seem unpredictable that there will be an advantage.

Yep but what I am inferring is that in this current gen of car, a significant amout of downforce is generated by the floor and raising the ride height reduces the amount of downforce they can generate from the ground effect. Mercedes already run a higher ride height due to the porpoising and I wonder whether as a result of the other teams raising the ride heights for wet weather running that Mercedes will be at less of a disadvantage..

Doesn't that help speed up your working day, by watching from work ;)

What if they made it at 6:30pm that might be better for some UK fans, but then worse for some Spanish fans. Should UK fans take priority?

I do understand what you are saying, but in general those that want to watch will find a way to watch. Similar to when world cups are played in different time zones. Personally, I would just watch a full replay once I got home. There's no need to be on OCUK or watching news etc.. before then, or even listening to crap radio in the car.

It's already late local time. In general, I agree with you strongly: F1 is a World Championship, we shouldn't be twisting race times for a European Audience. I'd rather we went back to having the races pretty much all around 1pm local time rather than this 3pm business. But, with Sprint Races moving the Quali to Friday, the timing becomes much more an issue, the competitive part of F1 usually occurs at the weekend (and, yes, of course plenty of people work on Saturday and some on Sunday). Quali Saturday morning then afternoon Sprint would seem a more sensible weekend structure than the current mess, but that doesn't give them the extra day of competitive action to sell tickets.
