Home made pizza in these kind of ovens is so much nicer than everything from your bog standard pizza places. Only comparison would be actual Italian pizza places. :)

I wouldn't base it too much on how many Dominos you order a year, we maybe had a few takeaway pizzas a year but with the Ooni we have made Pizzas far more often as they are just nicer! It is quite a big outlay though, once you get the over, all the gubbins, the ingredients etc.
 
I’ve been eating a lot more pizza since I got mine.

Mrs Sk8 was never a big fan of ready made pizza or takeaway pizza but is pretty into what I can get out of the Ooni.

Once you have the oven you don’t need to go nuts on the ingredients. You can put out some really very good pizza using off the shelf ingredients from Tesco.

It's a fair point, if you're going to be the only one eating them then for the hassle and cost it becomes a harder sell.

Does anyone use sourdough starter for pizza making? Have seen an ooni video about it but wondering if anyone has some real world tips. I'm guessing long proving times required.

I wanted it but i don't think i can justify it. It might take 90seconds to cook a pizza but from dough making to lighting the fire to cooling down and putting it away, it's quite a lot of stuff and time to do. I must admit I want to get it to see that i can do it but i can't justify it, at least at the moment. Plus I hardly eat pizza, not frozen, never dominoes or pizza hut and I have one 5mins walk away, last time was in December.

May be one day.
 
If you don’t eat pizza, why are you considering buying one :p

In all seriousness though, I’d highly recommend gas. Wood fired sounds great but it’s just not worth the extra hassle. It doesn’t add any extra flavour, is more work to cook with and makes everything stink of smoke.
 
As above, if you dont already make and eat it regularly then it will be an expensive paperweight.

We've been having a weekly homemade pizza night for 5 years now so upgrading to a dedicated pizza oven was an easy decision for me and we continue to use it every week.

Hey all! Potential Ooni 12 Koda purchase in the near future.

Looking for some advice for a beginner. (Never made dough etc)

I'll have a poke around here and who knows, maybe become a regular!

Looking to get the Ooni from John Lewis. Partner gets 25% off which really sweetens the deal. Wondering if I'd get much use our of it in the colder months? Does the outside colder temps affect the cooking process much? Or is that a silly question

Depends on where you plan to keep it. I use my Woodfired oven and Koda 16 pretty much all the year through. That said I have a car port at the side of the house that gives it some real good protection from the elements. No reason why you can't enjoy good pizza in your oven all the year through

I'd probably make up some sort of trolley to wheel it into the garage when not in use for a while.

So gas, I've never had a gas BBQ or anything. How is the cost of such stuff right now, the world the way it is. Am I right in thinking you essentially hire the bottle and just get it refilled? What size and type is recommended and any idea on a rough cost at the moment to get the bottle and fill it up?
 
you don’t really ‘hire’ the bottle as such, you pay a fee and you get one. As far as I am aware, you don’t get it back if you return it. It’s actually harder than it sounds to get a ‘new’ bottle from a supplier because there are shortages.

The trick is to get an empty one off Facebook for a few £ and take it somewhere to be swapped for a full one.

It’s more expensive than it was but it’s cheaper and easier than wood pellets IMO.

You can see the prices on the Calor website, I just use the little 5kg patio gas. There is a bigger one but that is probably overkill unless you are using it constantly.
 
Pretty sure I paid a deposit on the bottle and just pay to refill(swap) it. Once I return the bottle I get my deposit back. I got one of the 5KG small patio bottles, it was roughly £45 deposit and £45 for the gas. Then £45 to swap/refill each time.
This was somewhat before all the prices kicked off and I just get them from a local petrol station. Could well have gone up in price.

I could be wrong on the deposit, not that sure..... :cry:
