Are Russia pushing the Ukrainians back now? I thought Ukraine were making gains a few hours back?
We’ll the village of Blahodatne was captured by the Russians a couple of days ago. So yes they were.
Now who knows. We’ll see in a few days.
It’s a mile wide river at the Russians backs. If they can’t win here, they won’t win anywhere. So get the eyes if the world looking at this one place. Ignore everywhere else.
If and when Kherson is retaken. Then the Ukrainians are stuck behind the river and this area will become a backwater. So make all the political gains you can.

Ukraine is currently attacking the northern half of the Kherson pocket - looks like ultimately they want to secure northern side of the crossing at Nova Kakhovka before pushing on the city itself (second time they've attempted to push this angle). Russia has pushed out slightly towards Mykolaiv - it has taken them more than 10 days of fighting to push a small bulge out 3 miles. Russia seems to be on the receiving end of artillery more than they are dishing it out currently in the region. Largely not much is changing though it is mostly back and forth with Ukraine still trying to drain Russian forces as much as they can with minimal losses with a series of attacks and withdrawals.

Recently listened to a podcast where an ex CIA agent was interviewed and he said Russia will win this, Ukraine isn't a significant asset to the West. And also whilst the West is 'helping' Ukraine all it is doing is selling weapons/saddling it with debt. The invasion is going as per any successful invasion, despite the earlier setbacks.

Russia doesn't needt to take over every city. As we all know this is clearly an economic war as much as it is boots on the ground. The end will be Ukraine staying as Ukraine but being controlled be Russia. An outcome accepted by all.

One person's view but an interesting one.

Not really accepted by all though is it?

I don't think Russia will win this without putting more effort into it, more money and bodies, this half-ass war they are waging is going to grind the attackers into nothing.

Well for one if they lose then Ukraine will default on the debt. US weapons would be given to the Russians and Chinese.

And Ukraine is a significant asset to the west
So really they have to win, or the west loses.

There is still the aspect of this conflict that seems to go unmentioned, the sheer drain on Russian military capability in the near future post conflict.

From munitions to weapon systems, this conflict is causing Russia to be continually hobbled in the years to come. It will take years for the more advanced weapon systems and munitions to be rebuilt to pre conflict levels. This almost renders Russia impotent in its threats to other neighbouring countries, which I am sure as a result of its invasion of Ukraine those countries will be increasing its military expenditure.

The West is still winning in one aspect, it is showing that the donated weapon systems are highly effective: NLAW, Javalin, Starstreak, HIMARS, Guided munitions, HAARM. This will then lead to further improvements and developments in Western arms technology.

Some greats news today

* Firstly, European gas storage facilities are filling up fast ahead of schedule - finding gas to replace Russia was not that hard.

* As a result of better supplies, prices are coming down, gas price has already fallen by 22% in last 3 days

* The EU has agreed in principal to suspending the issuance of visas to Russians at varying levels. Looks like EU members will be allowed to tailor the rules to their liking but overall there are restrictions coming across the EU but they will be toughest in Eastern Europe where the countries want to ban all visas

sounds like he's forgetting the economic impact to russia. They're hurting bad too.

Not only that but the energy crisis is not centred around UKRAINE. It’s something that’s been building for a long time. So to say we will lose economically because of that is a very narrow take.

Yep no one wins when there is a war going on, well maybe apart from the swiss

I don't see any way the west will accept Ukraine going over to Russia. I mean its basically boiled down to a stalemate right now. No real gains in either direction.
But IMO thats a massive win for Ukraine. Russia has stalled, Ukraine is getting pumped still with weaponry and training.

Oddly Ukraine right now is in effect doing an updated version of Russian doctrine. Pound the enemy before advancing, however Ukraine are doing it with advanced weaponry, they are able to precision strike and take out high value targets. Russia have a choice, either start to fall back, manage to get something to tip the balance back a bit (such as drones from Iran (lol)) or accept they will be constantly bled until Ukraine see the time is right to push hard.
My only concern right now would be landmines. The longer the stalemate goes on the more likely it is that Russia will be mining Ukraine to hell.

Just another paid Russian stooge spreading misinformation.

To be fair you have to hand it to Putin, he has agents all over the world in high places, cash can do that, but the big prize and a stroke of genius was getting the president of the United States, Trump. for 4 years Putin ran America

Surely everyone has agents everywhere.
