The reason their progress had been so bad in the eight years since 2014 is because in Donetsk and Luhansk Russia was using mainly the local Ukrainian separatists plus some "Russian soldiers on holiday" (their actual explanation).

The big problem with this was that if you're a Ukrainian of Russian descent and you look at your country and see how it's westernising and moving towards closer ties with the EU, then you look at the Russian Federation and see how it's worse off now than it was under Yeltsin, and then you decide "yeah, our region needs to secede and join Russia" then you're a complete goddamn moron, and having a "rebel force" made entirely out of complete goddamn morons with a few actual soldiers to organise them is a recipe for many things but success is definitely not one of them :p

Need I remind everyone that the Donetsk/Luhansk forces are the guys who posted pictures on their official twitter account of the new Buk SAMs they had acquired, then shot down a military transport with them, then publicly bragged about it, then shot down a Boeing 777 with them because they were too stupid to tell it apart from a military jet, then deleted their previous tweets and denied ever having any anti-air weapons, and genuinely thought that would work.

You said the west won't be in it for the long haul and cited some examples, I gave some to show that you are very very much wrong with that theory.

Also some examples of the west giving up due to the cost of living?

Must hurt seeing Russia screwing up so badly with no way out other than hoping, like you, that they cave in due to gas shortages.

You mentioned Afghanistan as an example of a long military campaign, not sure why you're then asking what Afghanistan has to do with matters, if you read what you wrote it's still there.

I think Afghanistan isn't a greta example to use given that millions of people are now under famine due to the hasty withdrawal of troops, pressured by the public.

Due to the capitulation of the Afghan national army, the government and the take up of power by a quasi religious Nazi organisation.

Parallels abound but off topic so I will retreat.

The irony of a pro-B(the worder that can't be mentioned) calling someone else a Putin ally :cry: But then that's shouldn't surprise anyone really.
 

Just found that one in the news

An incredible tank kill at 10600 km's away that's just over 6.5 miles needing a barrage of hits to do the job.

The accuracy over that distance is incredible for a non GPS guided shell.

That's one aspect of this conflict that has been so bizare... so many hard-left types are so brain dead that they'll seemingly support genocidal fasicsts on the Russian side presumably simply because they're anti-western.

When you consider that Jewish people in Germany were a highly successful educated group who owned businesses, were landlords etc.. (Hitler himself had a Jewish landlord for a decade) and see the envy politics types today who want to "eat the rich" then it's not hard to see how the sort of personalities attracted to grievances, "revenge", militant angry shouty politics, state control and authoritarianism could flip from international socialism to national socialism...

You're calling me pro-Russia becuase I posted a link to a CIA agents thoughts and quite clearly said they are not my views.

I find it ironic that you call me pro-Russia whilst you yourself have literally supported Russia's attempts to destabilise the West. That you can't see this explains why you fell for it hook, line and ssinker in the first place. Aren't you pro Trump as well? :cry:
