It's critical infrastructure for the civilian populations, not the military. Russia knows that but it still makes a mockery of their claims to be there to liberate the civilian populations from their 'nazi' government. Not that it was ever in doubt anyway!

Russias strikes in Kharkiv have puts its own cities into blackout as well, because they rewired the grid earlier to steal electricity from ukraine so when ukraine power plants lost power, Russian cities lost power too

That's how ******* stupid they are

Makes you wonder though why such a huge retreat there must be intel that Ukraine was coming with a very heavy army maybe the million man army as was talked about!

Even more stupid is they literally only had a single line of defence in Kharkiv region, nothing for the troops to fall back into, it's why Ukraine has advanced so far lol

Ukrainian soldiers storming a Russian position.

First person view video available on Twitter and reddit just look for it, looks like two russians slotted.

I kind of think that Ukraine could temporarily cede the lands around critical civilian infrastructure to say the US embassy so they can position forces there and see if the Kremlin has a stroke over the affair.

By all reports ammo caches behind the frontline often with like 2 guards and no fortification or nearby units, etc. seemingly for an offensive they had equipment but no man power for.

They are learning in Kherson though if true

Moving their lines back so they are within artillery range on the Eastern side of the Dniper

it is odd after months of relatively stagnant front line with minor gains and losses for both sides that suddenly Russia seems to collapse. I don't totally buy it as up to even a few weeks ago most sensible reporting was relatively pessimistic of Ukraine prospects with an assumption that Russia will just keep throwing many power and equipment/artillery at the war and that they could easily raise 300-500k conscripts for the grinder and push slowly over Ukraine. Especially once winter sets in.

The sudden fallback within a week was.not expected at all. I wonder if it reflects some internal political positions surfacing.

No it's clear that Ukraine has just been holding the line and buying time to prepare.

All this time more equipment, training, and hardware has been arriving, and since HIMARS they've had the initiative (how many ammo dumps have gone up in flames? it's more than a few!).

The combination of the above + intel from every country in EU and US means that Ukraine was more than ready to push when they needed to, the failure here is simply that Russia was ill prepared for this eventuality.

Look at Kherson, they had (by reports) 25K troops sat there, unable to be supplied properly due to the crossings of the river behind them being blown up, and the threat of encirclement if the Ukraine army cuts them off from behind.

This is a coalition effort against an opponent that lacks equipment, drive, training, and leadership. Once Ukraine didn't collapse early on, they (Russia) had already lost once the support started rolling in.

It's not at all odd Ukraine just got 10's of thousands of freshly trained troops and lots of nice toys from the West to use in the Kherson & Kharkiv offensive, this is the result of months of planning and patience waiting for trained troops

They were baited into moving their forces down to the South for the Kherson offensive that a big song and dance was made about. Then Ukraine ploughed through the East instead.

I think it mostly reflects Ukrainian excellent strategic awareness and Russian incompetence rather then any political on-goings. Simply put Russian was over stretched and left their Kharkiv position too thin and lightly defended, Ukraine somehow managed to keep the build up of new battalions under wraps and were able to exploit an opportunity. As far as politics goes this puts Ukraine and it's allies into a strong position as it shows supplying them with weapons is worthwhile, meanwhile Putin is the sort of pressure he's never experienced before in his political life with people openly blaming him for the disaster that's befallen Russia's army, he had to find a way to halt the tide of battle otherwise he's future almost consists of falling out of tall building.

The Russians really are absolute scum. Time to allow and supply
Ukraine with equipment to pay back in kind across the border.
