Hmm... odd that. Hope it's real tbh, but more likely an act of misinformation from a NATO exercise or training camp.

*could also be a photoshop, but am not versed in photoshopery so can't tell.
Real photo but not from Ukraine apparently

I don't think Putin is the kind of person to take this defeat lying down. Kind of worrying thinking about what type of action he will take, as the wolves start to circle around him. If it starts to play bad in Russia, I don't think it will be long before he accidentally falls out an open window somewhere. Would he risk it all with a tactical Nuke in Ukraine somewhere, if he gets desperate enough?

No matter how much the Kremlin wants it to be true there is no such thing as an ethnic Russian and shouldn't be given credibility over such a ridiculous false justification to invade neighbours.

You can call it whatever you want the fact is there are russians and there are ukrainians the russians in donetsk and luhansk have been fighting a separatist war for years its how this whole damn thing started in the first place they identify as russian they speak russian they look to Moscow and not to Kyiv and however this war ends that situation that legacy of of the old soviet union hasn't gone away and whatever settlement is eventually reached it'll have to take it/them into account whether they cede the territory to russia or kick them all out and over the border into russia it'll need to be settled somehow or the civil war will simply rumble on as it has done for years already.

I think there is a certain complacency and/or hubris to the notion that Putin and/or Russia is going to take a lot of stuff over Ukraine lying down - they may not be in a position to do anything about some things right now but I doubt they've forgotten.

Not sure he'll be bumped off any time soon he has far too much of a grip on power - it will take several of his closest associates organising something between them or pure chance for the possibility to come about and those closest to him are likely all paranoid of each other.

I only see Putin attempting, whether successfully or otherwise, to use the nuclear options if his back was to the wall though I wouldn't rule it out as impossible either. He is one of those people with a destructive "if I can't have it then neither can you" streak - but I can't see him doing that over defeat in Ukraine alone but a possible attempt to escalate to de-escalate depending where his red lines are i.e. Crimea, etc.

That is only if we believe that they wanted any of this (clearly there was some desire, but i highly doubt they'd wanted to be press-ganged into being cannon fodder) and weren't forced into it by a completely captured political system where they literally had a GRU officer running it.

These so-called 'separatists' didn't even exist until Russia created them. It's an entirely manufactured conflict, orchestrated by Putin for the sole purpose of stealing Ukrainian territory.

Meanwhile, Putin's civilian puppets are fleeing to the Russian border, where they quickly learn that Russia has no intention of letting them in despite their newly issued Russian passports.

These are the same people Putin claimed to be 'rescuing' by invading Ukraine. Now they have served their purpose, he simply discards them. But I have no sympathy. They brought it on themselves.

Whats the chance that if Russia keeps all its gas out of Europe over the winter that its pipelines will be nationalised by every other frozen-out country they pass through?

Darn.... just saw a slowed down video (blurry) of a tank commander being sent orbital then landing on the roof of the building next to the destroyed tank. War is brutal. (Just happened to see it as browsing twitter).

Yup, very brutal. You should see the diagrams and calculations of his speed to and from orbit on Pistonheads, it's surreal.

I just hope Ukraine's gains are sustainable. If she doesn't have enough depth to her offensive, it could be quickly reversed.

Quite a bit of NSFW video appearing the last few hours from Kharkiv region.

You say that but the reason it's so devastating is that Russia had zero depth to their lines.

It is a lot of ground though to defend - Russia could manoeuvre and retake some of the areas as the offence moves on... if they had the man power to bring in from Russia... which at the moment seems questionable.

EDIT: Some irony in that in several areas it seems the Russian forces when met by force dropped their guns and fled or surrendered without trying to fight.
