Makes sense, wait for Russia to make the first step, and then react. If Russia declare war and ramp up activity, and still can't win, then they'll look even worse than they do now.

Also the ones not watching state tv, they can't escape the losses & defeats, eventually they too will be beating the drums of war for Mother Russia to be victorious again, it's pretty obvious from the ramp up of state TV, they're setting the ground work for a war footing, Putin has little choice, Ukraine are already ahead in training fresh blood to put into the fight, Russia can't really waste any more time and they definitely can't pull out and no exit ramp will be afforded to Putin

But they can escape it because their children aren't the ones dying and they can hardly trust the government that changes it's narratives every other day, they're apolitical and that's not going to change without immense pressure which could easily boomerang into a toppled government.

Also these ultra-nationalists we're talking about are mostly composed of middle-aged men suffering decades of substance abuse/lethargy and many of which also additionally suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome, they are not an asset for any military.
 
Other than firing some intercontinental ballistic missiles at the US, whos launch would be treated as a nuclear threat, so would be suicide, what can Russia possibly do to the US now.
 
Just doesn't seem that likely Russia would go for full mobilisation at the moment... Would just be a massive change of tone for the population, and might result in a much less passive / accepting population which Putin has come to rely on... Risky for his domestic situation. Don't see it getting him anywhere in Ukraine either - the West has called his bluff and is continuing to support Ukraine now, if Putin went for full mobilisation that support would just step up another notch.

Lots of practical problems too like the poor state of repair of so much of their kit, difficulty in training up large numbers of new recruits, likely poor morale.

I knew this would happen

When the Russians retreated back to Russia in Kharkiv they didn't just go home, they setup shop in the villages near the border to launch attacks from and then they issued notices that civilians must leave the area - so naturally this meant Ukraine was about to start launching artillery into Russia to destroy these units. Russia can't launch attacks from Russia and not expect to get hit back

Depends what the failure is - the warhead of a nuclear weapon actually needs a fair degree of precision to detonate and usually set to trigger in specific circumstances and unlikely to happen in a failure by accident though not impossible. More likely to spread a bit of radioactive material around the local area.

It might actually just be Russia shooting Russia for a false flag, more ways to ramp up the call to war than just the propaganda channels and Russia has form for this
 
Looks like Russia is pulling a bunch of export spec T-90 out of storage, so far indications seem to be they are likely to be used to reinforce Crimea - suggesting Russia expects Kherson region to fall.
