"Mr Putin urged the two leaders to resolve the situation "exclusively by peaceful, political and diplomatic means as soon as possible," a Kremlin statement said."

LOL... setting a shining example there...

He does play the game very well....

What a ****.

Don't think the CIA, or any other Western intelligence agency for that matter, will be interested in a tank that's on par with the ones we fielded in the 90s/00s. It'll be retracked and put to good use on the ground.

They will be, if only to confirm that it’s a bad as they thought it was. The hull will end up at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland to be a test target for current and next generation AT rounds and ATGWs once they’ve stripped anything of interest out of it.

This, it will be stripped down and weaknesses found. If it electronics can be jammed, they will find it weaknesses. It will also have some common elements in the Armata

Belarus could be interesting, nothing concrete other than a wayward thought, but I understand Lukashenka is not well liked.

With Putin otherwise busy, it has the potential for triggering Lukashenka being kicked out should the populace decide they don't want him in power.

Only reason I can really see for Belarus not officially joining the conflict is that the army is not fully controlled, and they'd rebel rather than officially go to war with Ukraine.

I seem to remember reading somewhere right at the start of this war that he hadn't been asked to join in but would if he was. As to why he hasn't been asked/joined in, who knows maybe he fears the war spilling over the border maybe he fears his own people joining the ukrainians if it does

Letting Russia use Belarus as a staging ground is playing a part though even so.

I think he would face an internal rebellion should he have been pushed to join in.

The Americans are now saying nato tanks are on the table for Ukraine, but before they are sent, the Ukrainian need to show that they'll be able to service and repair them, themselves

They don't have a large army - around 50,000. Mostly conscripts, I can't see them being massively motivated to join in.

See the Russians are planning referendums in the occupied Luhansk and Donetsk regions so the new republics can be formerly made part of Russia. So soon after finding their independence, gosh that was fast.
All geared toward yet more, 'you're attack Russia proper now, stop or we'll do something about it!'

The gall of them is pretty astonishing tbh.

IIRC they can only deploy about 17K to Ukraine max. I think the originally idea was for them to position themselves west of Kyiv to disrupt supplies from Poland, etc. and less complicated than having Russian troops directly on the border with European countries.

It also raises the nuclear spectre yet again for Ukraine. One of the few cards putin has left to play.
