It seems there are some many ‘special’ people in Russia. How can there be so many dumb people in Russia. We slate the UK and what not but this is on another level. They are going to war drunk.

Until they make an attempt to surrender you're basically free to try and kill them at any time, so you can shoot them when they're shooting at you, you can drop a mortar on their positions at 3am in the morning when most of them are asleep, you can shoot them whilst they're shooting at each other...

As long as they're part of the invading army and not surrendering/surrendered/wounded enough to be obviously out of the fight then they're basically fair game.
Effectively if they're in uniform feel free to shoot at them, if they're not in uniform they're a spy and some of the normal rules IIRC don't apply (if you desert you probably want to keep your uniform on with something to show you're no longer a threat, as if you're a combatant out of uniform you don't get quite the same protections under international law from memory).

I think the plan is to buy time for winter to come and really turn the screws on the Ukrainians by going after the heating infrastructure (they don't have central heating, it's all pumped in from thermal power stations) in the hopes that things get so desperate the Ukrainians will sue for peace and Putin gets to keep his gains until he decides to go again for more land

It's going to be a largely static war from now until next year unless Ukraine manage to break through lines before the reinforcements come

No chance they'll give up, cold, hungry, tired, outnumbered. Ukrainians are tough as nails, this will continue even if there is no power.

I don't know why but the Russians seem to think Europe will freeze without their gas in the winter, they even posted a ridiculous video that showed Europe going full ice age, Frost Punk style.

Think they're very wrong myself, we'll see at least this winter through as is.

because they don't want to go to war. This is them trying to come to terms with decades of propaganda, their nationalisation, fear of dying, and knowing deep down something isn't right with the orders but knowing there is no way out and quiet likely death. What would you do?
