That's a fair point. No party provide confidence. I guess people just accept that they won't be as bad as the current lot, that doesn't mean they won't be bad.

I just look at some of Labour proposals and see cash being burned, I agree with Nationalising the railway but it'll cost a fortune and probably end up as a money pit as we seem unable to run a bath in this country.

"Great British Energy" is frankly too late and sounds like something to appease flag shaggers, they might as well take the money and just build a couple of nuclear plants.

With fairness, it isn't "just" the UK. The Yuan has hit a record low against the Dollar too. But China is on the bring of collapse, so perhaps yea, we're not too far behind :p
The UK has the 2nd-worst performing economy out of the 38 member countries of the OECD, with Russia taking the bottom spot. We're doing so badly.

Any idea on the timings? Because as the saying goes when one major economy sneezes the world catches a cold so it's possible that our troubles are infecting other markets or visa versa.

On that note it would be pretty catastrophic if the economic problems caused by Truss lead to another global financial crash.

Not at all but currently a possible Labour government is at least two years away, this mess is unfolding before our very eyes so is perhaps more pressing, is more pertinent, is the thing we should be more focused on.

Is it? I'm not saying anything and i don't think Labour are saying much as what needs to be done to repair the economy depends on how much of a mess the Conservatives make of the economy. It's kind of hard to say what you'd reverse or even do if you don't know if the house is still going to be standing when you move in.

As much as you may want to run interference by throwing out the ol' but Labour surely even you see what a dangerous situation the UK economy is currently in, how what a Conservative government is doing is effecting people lives, for the worse, surely you must feel some compunction for trying to cover for this mess.

This is just a discussion on some web forum and has no bearing on anything in the real world.

The thread is mini budget discussion - not lefty hysteria thread.

It's @Besty who is going to save us all with trickle into the bank account economic wealth creation.

The Spanish and Portugese governments are both Socialist.

If the U.K is less competitive than these two countries on taxation for technology workers and corporation tax, somethings not right.

Either way whoever is in power Labour or the Tories this country is ******, Labour are going to spend a fortune, the Tories want to spend a fortune.
Neither have any real idea beyond that except headline grabbing policies that will end up going nowhere as usual.
I mean there's huge differences in when and where that money is spent, but yea OK, they're all the same.

Are you for real? There's a danger of people losing their homes, their pensions, and your only response is to dismiss peoples concerns as "just a discussion on some web forum" and "lefty hysteria".

I guess i have my answer to you not feeling any compunction now, what a piece of work. :(

If the Tories are so confident that this will work why are they blocking the OBR forecast?
The fact they didnt have enough to time to work it out what their budget would mean.
Ironically it may have saved the economy from even more hard, likely just how bsd the OBR report would be would have leaked before the budget and the market LOVES speculation.

this is 'just a discussion on a web forum' - do you think your posts are influencing policy or something? what do you think this thread is?

This directly means cuts in NHS and council services but dont worry, the wealthy can use the tax cuts they now get to pay for private replacement services like medical, dental, refuse etc so they won't be affected.

Almost as if it's intentional

But i bet they still **** money up the wall to train everyone on diversity, LGBTQ+ issues, how not to be transphobic or how the police can better arrest you for spicy tweets :/

This is exactly what caused the financial crash; not the policies themselves but the refusal to demonstrate how the numbers add up. They literally tried to gaslight the public (yet again) by claiming it wasn't a budget and therefore swerving the responsibility to balance the books.

It's a tried and tested modern day Tory tactic, they just lost track of who their real audience actually was.

Well that's clearly more hysterical BS given the Home Sec lecturing the police on being less woke yesterday and how Gove went to war on woke training courses.

Labour is the woke party..

I cannot stand Truss, bad choice, not that there are many good choices these days, but even as someone right of centre, this just look like popularism to get some short term public gain..

I still cannot understand the utter idiocy of voting in Truss when Sunik was obviously a far better choice. The DM went rabid over him and all the stupid brain dead party members followed suit. As a right leaning conservative I do wonder what happened to the party that I voted in *head bang*
