Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Got my £66 credited to my BG account yesterday.
Shell seem to be going backwards, both my Direct Debit payment and the £66 credit have disappeared from my payment history.

From Monday:

After a long wait I finally managed to log into my account. Contrary to what they said Shell have taken my full Direct Debit and also credited me with an extra £66. Maybe they'll refund it later in the week.

Ive been trying to use the air fryer more last week or so. Its actually quite noticeable on the daily usage, around 1.4 units a day last week than about 3 weeks ago
Considering also more lighting is going on slowly which will be adding slightly to the usage its got to be the air fryer thats behind it, basically nothing else has changed.

Air fryers are worth the hype in my opinion. So much quicker than the oven.

Could probably scrap the oven if I had a pizza cooking tool

Really like the dual compartment one I bought

Yeah I am a bit bemused by it all to be honest
My only suspicion now is that with energy having been so cheap for so long that main oven suppliers really didn't care, so maybe there are opportunities that they haven't taken to improve performance

We have one of the small upright type so its got 3 mini racks which seems to work well

I did a lasagne in it the other day and the top was even far crispier than normal oven and cooked in a bit less time.
I put it in from cold as well where as I still normally preheat the main oven

Its got a rotisserie setting as well which we havent used, I am very tempted to buy a small chicken (dont think larger would fit) and throw that in this weekend

Sounds like ours, a Tower. Does small chickens well!

@jpaul has it, it is now (and has been for a few years) against the rules for suppliers to hold on to you funds unnecessarily.

Basically suppliers we using customer money to make money and that's not allowed!
I don't know how, but somehow I missed their post. I think I heard something similar to what you've said, but the memory is so vague and long ago that I forgot all about it. I've decided that I'm going to pay the refunds back and ask for a refund for what's left in credit at the beginning of summer 2023.

I'm becoming slightly nauseated by somebody telling me their Tower air fryer can cook chickens, pizzas, joints of meat. Yes, perhaps enough for two people, but any more and you're goosed. I await Christmas as they try to cook their dinner in it. :D

Oh totally agree, any decent size meal will in the main oven. We have 4 in the range, 3x fan and 1x conventional (grill cavity) and at xmas we will have 3 or 4 going at the same time.
I suspect normal weekend roasts we have in the winter will be in the range as well.
Couldnt fit a decent pizza in the air fryer so thats staying oven cooked as well. The pizza oven still remains unused after 3 years. Just CBA with it.

I think we could just about cook a roast for 2, even thats a stretch to be honest.
And the roast potatoes were distinctly average at best in the air fryer but my roast post are semi legendary after many years of perfecting in the oven so maybe I can get close in the fryer with adaptation.

Anyone know what Octopus are doing regarding the £66/67 a month rebate?

All they have done so far is drop my old DD amount by £67 which now means my energy is costing more per unit but I'm now giving them less money for it per month lol

Latest Tower 3in1 air-fryer, currently hammered on freeview, is advertising steaming , and has a water containr, first time I've seen some element of healthy cooking, when the USA combo air-fryers with uwave too, arrive in the UK, I might bite.

I'm waiting for someone to actually put a energy meter on their (1.4/1.7KW rated) air fryer and tell us what the actual consumption is.
not having an easy way to get oven power consumption is still annoying ... if it would tell me on it's display that would be great - all these crap smart/bluetooth white goods, all dumb in this respect.

Sometime in the next week or so, you'll receive a £66 credit from us. It won't necessarily be on the 1st of the month, so don't worry if you don't see it. This is first credit of six you'll receive this Winter, adding up to £400 non-repayable government support.

Had asparagus in the airfryer. And jacket potato. Both worked a treat.

Not sure if it would be any use without 2 compartments. The extra cost for that was worth it.
2 different things finishing in time I find real useful

I will try to remember to do this next time I use it, might not be tonight though as I have half of last nights stir fry to ping tonight

TBH its one of the considerations when buying, we decided the larger single cavity was better (with 3 racks) as opposed to smaller ones.
Its buying what suits your cooking style best.

OFGEN pursued(and fined no?) companies for holding people money and pre-emptive direct debit rises, so, maybe not surprising they are stopping that.
They seem to have even changed their rules.

Their site now has a statement which suggests they ok with suppliers raising direct debits before a new tariff is in effect.

They useless.

Mine's a 1.9kw (philips xxl I think it is).
el cheapo plugin meter says 2098W.

/edit just did my breakfast. 10 minutes at 190 degrees (including the warmup), 0.3 kwh

There are only 2 of us. And for sure we cook usually 2 oven things. (ie potatoes and some greens) which require very different times. But never enough to fill a box.

I think each box can hold a lot anyway! It's a big appliance!

It has 2*4 litre compartments and 1700w
I like the little light inside each compartment. Very useful

I've got 8 sausages in on the flat bed without any touching. And that's plenty. Don't want sausages touching each other in the kitchen!

We just do the same as for the main oven if we have differing times, open the door, put the second item in, and close the door again ;)

Its quite noticeable, more than with a normal oven how the temperature is hotter at the top. I did a pack of 12 chipolatas at the weekend, put half on top shelf and half on middle and the top were cooked a good 3-4 minutes faster, so probably 20% faster.
I would imagine the very top vs the very bottom would be even more marked.

Like I said, there wont be one fits all, buy what suits your style best.

Like I said ours has a rotissery funtion as well which was the differentiator, having had one years ago and actually having a BBQ version as well, we love the way rotissery cooks chicken.
We do have a halogen oven as well as thats the closest we had previously found to the effect. Just need to get round to trying the airfryer.

Although to be honest compared to the first airfryers these newer generation are far more, mini oven than fryers

Yeah mini oven for sure. I don't even think there's much (any?) difference between the settings on ours.

Not needed to use shelves with ours. The beds are big enough.
