With Hub 5.
My youngest daughter runs an old 2.4GHZ PCI adapter card. Connected but a drop in speed, need to retest.
Daughters TV conneted via 2.4Ghz wireless. Connected no speed test run but she has not complained.
Daughters X-box not yet connected.
My eldest lad runs an inbuilt WiFi 2.4GHz set up on his Mini ITX. He has around 70mb so is slightly down from previous.
My youngest lad. PC will not connect. Cannot find an IP address with DWA-140. Previoulsy he was getting over 100mb with the DWA-140 on 2.4GHz, around 300mb with his old TP-Link 5G dongle that stopped working with W10 a while back.
Bedroom TV was connected via 5G at 100mb. Continual random disconnects. So far with 2.5GHz its at 47MB download with 52mb upload.
My PC connected via AC68 PCI adapter, getting around 100mb. Previously with AC87U router and AC68 adapter I had a solid 362mb on a solid 5G connection. All devices have improved upload though on 2.5GHz with most averaging around 50mb upload.
With the old devices the 4 pc's could game at the same time while using Twitch and Spotify while a TV streamed 4k with occasional hic ups, in fact I believe the Xbox's caused more issues when downloading while PC's gamed. That was via WiFi on the AC87U with M350 internet, Hub 3 in modem mode. So I thought Gig1 would be a bit better.
Hub 5 simply sucks getting peeved off with continually going to it in the browser to try and get 5G working just for it to later lose it, the 2.5GHz and 5GHz are both seperate and switchable, 2.5GHz so far seems reliable but caps at 100Mmb, 5GHz can pass 600mb but continually drops or dissapears from the network on all 5G devices, requiring going into the router and switching it on off. Range is not as good but I should expect that, we got the AC87U due to the old hub range being not that great and me wanting 5G with the AC68 to max my wifi connection, but we had no issues setting up Hub 3 and an AC87U for the home network.
Though old the wifi network we had allowed gaming and only occasional complaints about lag from kids which I didnt see as a home network issue. Three of us could platoon together with no issues via wifi in online games.
Upstairs has up to 5 PC's connecting via WiFi, 2 Galaxy Tabs, an Ipad, 6 mobiles, an Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and a couple of DS and couple of TV. Most via 2.5Ghz, a couple of items still to be connected, Tabs and DS, Xbox. We have no wiring upstairs as with the AC87 we got strong connection with 2.4GHz in back rooms and strong 5 bars 5G connection in rooms directly above the router.
I agree we could do with a few better WiFi devices, I would have expected the old AC68 to be fine with the Hub 5 if it had a stable 5G connection, bedroom TV is far smoother via 5G and its noticeable even when loading web pages, but later you will go and TV reports no Network making 5G pointless. My eldest lads old socket 1150 mini ITX asus motherboard will be limited so a USB dongle upgrade will be required, but thats pointless if Virgins Hub 5 cannot better 100MB on 2.4Ghz and has an unreliable 5G output.
Could get my daughter and youngest lad a better PCI adapter, but again as the Hub 5 is so appaling with sub 100mb on ALL 2.4GHz connections and an unreliable 5G connection. Currently the Hub 5 is WORSE than the old Hub 3 and the AC97U both older tech.
I would have assumed if a competent device, Hub 5 would have attained the same speeds or better than my previous two set ups. I was hoping for the Hub 5 to replace the AC87U even if it's range was less.
Maybe it's me, missing something in settings, but so far frustrated and disappointed with Gig1 and the Hub 5. If I can get 5G stable and maintain 600mb plus on that network, and pass the 100mb cap on a couple of 2.4GHz devices it would be fine.
Will try a few different channels and see if it can stay stable at 5GHz before giving up, I did rename both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels with both set to manual with optimisation off, but have noticed the Hub has reset to auto when its meant to be manual. Will see if I am going wrong somewhere with the Hub 5 settings.
