Not much is going to happen unless it was proved it was intentional to target Poland and/or is a repeated event. And even if it was proven to be intentional without a repeated event unlikely there will be any escalation - maybe used against Russia when it comes to justifying giving Ukraine certain hardware.

A repeat event would likely see the launch site/platforms become a valid target.

Ok so in your version of events Russia has deliberately targeted a field in Poland …… there are a million and one explanations that are more likely.
No...

If you actually read what I posted, you would see that I suggested that this may be operator error, wrong grid? No two man check prior to firing, an oversight, a simple mistake inputting targeting information. I'm not saying it isnt a deliberate strike on underground power cable infrastructure, seems a bit far fetched as an S300 isnt that precise when used the the ground target role, I seem to remember a figure of +/- 200m?
Thats if its even an S300 missile, we are still going off of early unconfirmed reports. Lets see what the outcome is from investigations are. It could well be a stray Ukrainian Missile, but my gut reaction is that its Russian mistake.

My genuine "version" or in reality... My thoughts, on the matter is I think it may have been targeted at the Power plant over the border with a miss-calculation on the firing data.

Yes i don't think we should start ww3 either, but it would be nice to find an enforceable way to stop Russian missiles from targeting civilians in large parts of Ukraine with this.

If NATO enforces a no fly zone on certain areas, then what will Russia be able to do to stop them? They can't match NATO aircraft, and the nuke threats are a bit empty.

Will have to see what comes of this.
Enforcing a no fly zone in Ukrainian air space would be a massive escalation by nato and would put us in direct conflict with Russia something we should be avoiding at all costs. Nuclear armed states going Face to face in a staring contest has far too many risks.

I totally agree that the Russian targeting of civilians is abhorrent but it is a sadly inevitable feature of modern warfare despite it proofing time and time again not to be a tactic that wins wars.

There are ways to do this without massively escalating. They could enforce NFZ over Recognized Ukrainian controlled territory, whereby Western equipment either controlled by Ukrainian or western forces could be used to intercept Russian fired missiles. The majority of missiles fired into Ukraine come outwith of Ukrainian controlled territory due to Anti air threat/lack of Russian Air Superiority. Thereby eliminating the missile threat whilst not physically targeting Russian aircraft themselves. It would be a risky balance to strike though.

A no fly zone is a bad idea, given the lack of resl time comms Russian forces have. They ground everything they use, it gives free hand for sams to engage everything

You are inevitably putting western forces on the ground directly intercepting Russian attacks as it isn’t possible by other way that is a massive escalation and direct involvement in the war. It’s not happening.

Anti air is so effective, closer to the start of the war the Russians were shooting down one of their own planes on a daily basis.

Why this happens though isn't super clear. NATO avoids this, or tries to, by having transponders fitted to its planes which communicate with the anti air system to tell it "I'm friendly", maybe the Russians don't use this

Its really not a huge escalation over our engagement as it is. I mean the west is already extremely heavily engaged in the Intelligence and targeting process, We are already literally one functional step away from pulling the trigger as it is. I genuinely do not believe it would illicit a actionable response from Russia, it would just limit the range of their attacks to the eastern/southern areas of the conflict.

So it would appear that this town in Poland happens to near enough intersect (technically it's in Ukraine still using google, but the size of the targets plus inaccuracy could easily include the town) Kyiv's latitude and Lviv's longitude which makes it rather too convenient for Russia who can just blame the error on engineers dialling in the coordinates.

That makes more sense than the idea that Russia targeted a strategically important grain silo in Poland.

So the Russian narrative will be it was Ukraine but the reality is if Russia wasn’t targeting civilian infrastructure hundreds of miles from the front lines, this would not have happened.
