So Twitter is now banning links to the elonjet on other platforms. Isn't that similar to the NY Post story ban? People weren't able to post links to it and that caused outrage.
That was about suppressing a news story from an established US newspaper/freedom of the press.
Granted the way Elon has gone about doing this is in a total cake-and-arse manner but the general principle is sound (even if it took some lunatic jumping on a car with Elon's kid in it for the change to occur).
Posting real-time locations of public figures or indeed tracking their movements in real time is a bit iffy and so long as you can still report that same info with a delay then I don't really see a huge free speech issue, it is more of a safety issue.
The really dark side of this security issue is perhaps highlighted by the murder in September of a rapper after an Instagram post was made of his current location:
The Philadelphia hip-hop artist, 30, was targeted for his jewelry while he was eating at the South L.A. restaurant, police said.

The gunman who killed PnB Rock at the Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles restaurant in South Los Angeles demanded jewelry and other valuables before getting into a struggle with the rapper and opening fire, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said Tuesday.
Moore said the Monday attack occurred soon after the rapper was tagged online as being at the restaurant, and police are investigating whether that is what prompted the attack.
Rock, 30, whose real name was Rakim Allen, had been at the restaurant with his girlfriend, who had posted a location-tagged photo in a since-deleted Instagram post.
In that case it was his gf who posted the location but this can just as easily be posted by fans and the danger is there, people like rappers in the US are an obvious "rich person" target for low-level gangbanger types. Ditto to footballers in the UK, they're already in danger of being burgled when it's known they're playing a match and have been targeted by burglars based on that but they can just as easily be robbery targets too.
Lastly, there is the stalker issue, one of my Twitter mutuals has a 7 figure following on various platforms, she's posted a fair bit on her alt about both creepy male celebs in her DMs and stalkers, one time she posted a pic from a real-time location and someone rapidly geolocated it and DM'd her.
I think for some of these celebs it's not necessarily people who actively want to harm them but mentally ill people who want to get close to them for whatever reason or believe they know each other or have some sort of relationship, there was an interview with a Royal Protection officer I saw recently and he stated their biggest issue was dealing with mentally ill people who'd turn up trying to get access to the Royals, pretending they had an appointment etc..
