Don’t be silly, it’s a DCT box not quite as simple as just opening it up. Even local Ferrari specialist won’t touch the car and he is an ex master tech who setup by himself. In his words dealers spend a lot of money training one member of staff up and at that one one per dealer, some dealers don’t have someone qualified and have to pass to another dealer. Also lots of specialist tools and computers needed as well. Impossible to DIY at home no matter how competent you are.

Guy in our 458 group had a similar failure, maybe same on a 2012 car with 19000 miles, his bill was £6000 from Ferrari. Which is better than 11k

The general consensus seems it happens but it’s rare, maybe this is down to using the car and it’s worn out and is maybe something many owners will face or just unlucky. I’ve done 26,000 miles and a few track days so maybe expected at least it did it after parking and not during driving.
 
Makes me thankful my seal issue was covered under warranty! Cheaper too lol

Side effect of us driving and tracking these cars most likely.

I know it's all academic now but why on earth would a warranty not cover an oil leak? Surely that's exactly the kind of issue it should be covering?

Agreed but read the small print and it’s not covered and is why many including myself self insure as the warranty is like £3000 per year now and covers very little.
 
Give Ricky a call at RE as mentioned. He started as a gearbox engineer at Audi, not Audi dealers, for the manufacturer.

If you watch his content he is properly skilled and is very much more than a mechanic. He has an R&D background and though not Ferrari specifically he is doing respected work across VW Group V10 and Macca.

Jet lagged hence the 5am posting time.

Did not want to bother with Ricky at RE, some people don't speak so highly of them, also and as he has never done a Ferrari DCT I don't fancy been the guinea pig with such expensive car.

Rang around a few dealers today, one came back with £6900, much better.

Another dealer came back to me as they do a lot of work on Challenge cars and know the parts are the same, as such they can get just the replacement seals which cost around £20 instead of having to buy a new rear casing which is £3300 plus VAT. As such their estimated repair bill is circa £4000, much better, they have knocked £30 per hour of the labour rate to help out, so they shall be collecting the car in a couple of weeks once their covered transporter is free. Cracking service so far, whilst it is in I've requested they change the half shaft differential output seals as drivers had a minor weep and the car will be getting all fresh fluids whilst in their care. No idea when it will be ready, as they are doing me a favour I've informed them there is no rush on getting car back.

Kind of glad I have been driving the car through colder months, otherwise this could have happened during Summer and ruined road trips I have planned.

Not nice to get a big bill like that but look at it this way; in the 3 years you've had that car it's lost nothing in value and cost you almost nothing in servicing and repair costs. Think about how much someone who buys a new 5-series BMW loses in 3 years of ownership. Probably a lot more than the Fezza has cost you.

458 has been driven all year round and still is, I enjoy it in the rain because skidz. :D

To be fair when I was driving it last week the roads round here had not been gritted for sometime due to the rather humid temperatures and hence me driving it.

Once the gritter comes out the cars stay in the garage.
