Is it safe to buy fuel/diesel from supermarket chain stores?

I found a video and took a screenshot...I don't think i need photoshop colour checker tool to see that none of them are red.....

I think you need to go to Specsavers....but I'll bite.

Which Brand Fuel compared to which supermarket are you referring to in this instance?
Not trying to get anyone to "bite" sigh.
Just giving my view on the subject, as was asked by the op.

My main experience with supermarket fuel is tesco and by decent garage I mean BP, gleaner, esso. Ect.

Thank you but my eyesight is fine.

I mean you are entitle to express your opinion, but the facts (in that photo), does not match your description on the colour.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally buy some Diesel and was mistaken, it smells like Diesel and looks like Diesel because it was Diesel?

(yes I realise the consequence of putting in the wrong fuel in the wrong engine)

Eh.....no

Look I pour **** loads of the stuff a day into a boat, you can tell the difference. It genuinely smells like red diesel.

So why can't outboard motors run on supermarket fuel? And by run I mean commercially not someone who goes out for a few hours a year and changes filters yearly anyway.

I am ONLY questioning your judgement between the colour Red and what the colour is in that photo.

Which is NOT red. We can agree on that, right?

Everything else you said....I am not questioning, but the colour....the facts are right there...we can see it, and it's not red. You too can see that, none of them are red.

I mean unless you can prove it....?

Note that you said "it is red", this is what I am trying to get to the bottom of.

You mean prove it like you did by grabbing a picture off online?
I'm not going to get into a massive debate and collecting "evidence" lol online.
Just giving my real world experience, everyone i know in the same industry has the same opinion as me.

Yes...and if you can produce a photo, I will beleive you too.

Or perhaps it's the boat motors that are too sensitive...? And like 10's of millions of cars don't have the same problem?

I mean just look at it logically, a statistic of an entire country of cars up and down the country vs a small sample of people that YOU KNOW, working in 1 industry...i mean how many people do you know?

It may be a lot but surely not as many as people who use supermarket fuels daily....statistically, your evidence doesn't make sense.

Your opinion however, still stands...but it doesn't qualify as evidence though.

I will say no, its crap fuel.

I use a a lot of fuel per day as I run a boat with a petrol outboard motor. If I use supermarket fuel it will clog up the filters in a matter of days and engine won't run right at all.

When pouring supermarket fuel it is red and smells almost like red diesel, where as from a decent garage its white and smell like petrol should.

I know a lot of you will just say I use it and it's fine no problems, but it isn't as good quality it's that simple. Don't belive me, just pour a litre of each into 2 jugs and you will instantly be able to tell the difference.
I've used E5 fuel from tesco and mixed it with 2 stroke oil plenty of times, it's your standard white/ yellow fuel colour.

I've been filling up with Sainsburys or Morrison's finest for years and the cars still going, I can't remember the last time I used something else might have been during the last fuel crisis when I queued at Texaco as it was only place open

If there was no problem ever in cars then why would it ever even be a discussion?
Page after page of people arguing about it online.
To say its me and the few folk I know vs 10 million other motorists is comical you are right that would be crazy.
I know of loads of problems in friends/family's cars.
It's not just me or my industry, it's a massive issue.
You ignore it if you want thats fine, I was just giving the op my opinion based on first hand experience.

I find it really weird how some people jump to defend supermarket fuel and whip out evidence from some random online, telling people they are wrong.

I am not ignoring it, I am in this thread and I want to get to the bottom of it, starting with you showing us some red colour petrol, as it was your claim.

For me to believe you, I think the easiest way to start with something simple, that we can prove and see....or you can prove. Rather than "who and who's car died because he used Tesco fuel", or smell of it, since there is no smell O vision yet.

But Red petrol.....that you are so certain about, that we can prove.

Interesting why you are so hung up on the colour and nothing else I have said in the last few msgs.

Because the colour is so easy to prove.

Why an engine fail....the user claim it's the fuel....who knows? who knows how he drives it, who knows how old that car is or the state of it when it broke down? Who knows the mechanical nature of the car? There are a million things to consider before one jumps to the conclusion it's the brand of fuel. And that we have to look into this for every single claim, instead of taking it on face value.

Your claim "It is Red".

That's very, for the lack of a better word, Black and White. We know what the colour red is....and you says your eye sight is fine....so....seems easy to settle it?

As we can't exactly examine every single case where people claim their car's engine blew up due to supermarket fuel.

Wow I've got myself stuck in one of them hduk fuel arguments. I just came on to give op my first hand advice and that is all.
How exactly do you want me to "prove" this to you?
You want to meet up and take a trip round the fuel pumps together taking samples?

Not really an argument, I am not even saying what you said is wrong, I am asking you to prove that super market petrol is red.

As to how to proof it....you use a lot of it? so it can't be long until you use it again, pour some into a glass and take a photo? I'll trust you, you can even use vimto if you want to "win" this "argument".

Just note that you made a claim....I am just questioning it.
