What country would you move to, if you had the opportunity?

I always supported it in EU if that's what youre getting at. But of course, a BRITISH territory should have course have freedom of movement - they are British the same as us. Its like saying no freedom of movement to the Isle of Wight.
It's not structured like that though - BOTs are not really considered part of Britian.

I think France differs in this respect, their overseas territories are literally considered as extensions of France (to my knowledge, I am absolutely not an expert)

but in that sense North wales and cornwall are much alike... take away the money from tourism and rich peoples cash and they would be stuffed.
I thought they were fixing council tax on holiday homes now - wales anyway;
Daily ongoing sewerage discussions (including windermere -hmmh) means beach destinations need careful study.

Cornish economy tv prog last night, apart from the luxury yacht refit factory they visited , the closing hotels and low payed jobs seemed negatives ..

its probably me being thick.......... but i dont follow.

No, we don't need to read any more drivel.
Seems people haven’t had the experience of living in other countries.

And still believe that this country is great. It has been run down since the mid 90s. This country has been sold by parts, then using taxpayers money to subsidise what they sold off. And wonder why taxes are rising.

Most are too dumb to even recognise the population is being mugged and weak to even riot.

Btw Spain seems to be gearing up to be the tech hub of Europe, companies are starting to flood certain regions offering great wages.

Great wages, cost of living 50% cheaper, Sun, beach, great night life, good quality food. What’s not to like.

New Zealand easily, our UK is fast becoming what Donald Trump once defined as a S*** **** Country ... and whilst I hate the guy, he has a point, the USA and UK are fast becoming S*** **** Countrys like his too.

Russia, China equally messed up.

Whole planets in decline though, so what we gonna do?

Ideally we should get our fat asses off this planet if we really want to propagate our species beyond this solar system, but that will never happen, too much short term Human greed.
Perhaps this natural experiment Earth and its solar system is best eradicated, never to be repeated and some other Universe solar system planet with evolved intelligent life has a chance?

We've messed it up at every opportunity it seems and there is no signs we will learn from our past mistakes ... we are a backward race for sure.

Naturally people will default to the path of least resistance. Which will bring other people around them down.

The lazy are still able to live and do the bare minimum to get by.

No, you cannot just turn up and live in a British Overseas Territory.
Depends on the territory. Ascension Island has no right to abode as it’s a working island. Gibraltar on the other hand you have right to live and work there as a British Citizen.

I grew up as an ex-pat and have travelled far and wide for work and pleasure. I’ve never been a backpacker, but I have spent time with the locals in both very rich and very poor places. What I have learned is that 99.9% of the planets population are just trying to live life in the best way they can. That’s why I don’t mind immigration and I’d readily swap some of our natives for ”better people” from elsewhere :D . Also England although scenic is nothing special when it comes to natural beauty, there are many other places that are truly “awesome”.

Realistically now Junior is nearly mid-twenties it makes things a bit easier and if I were to ignore parents we could go to Singapore tomorrow. It’s a work thing though you should see what happens if you were to lose your job out there.

BVI and Bermuda also fit into the same category.

However, a 250k golden passport to anywhere in the Caribbean for retirement is probably a good bet (hurricanes aside).

Once upon a time we’d hankered after renting out CO Towers and spending 3 or 4 years renting places in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece moving every 6 months or so and making a profit, however that dream was stolen by the Brexit frothers and part of the reason I will never forgive them!

As they say, travel is the one thing that costs you money but makes you richer.

I once recently looked up what it would take for a UK Citizen to move to the Falklands ... its certainly doable if you are persistent enough and really want to, even in current times, question is, why move from a Northern Hemisphere UK Country with crap climate to a Southern Hemisphere UK territory with similar dire weather?

As Long as we own The Falkland island we'll own the Ascension Island I guess.

Spain suffers a high level of structural unemployment. Since the economic and financial crisis of the 1980s, unemployment has never dipped below 8%. One leading cause is an economy based mostly on tourism and building sectors, as well as lack of industry.

The UK is happy to continue to mug itself off as long as they feel like the immigrants are getting mugged off as well.

Again why would I want to say in miserable London? Barcelona has what I need, whereas London does not.
Cost of living is cheaper, wages are almost similar, better quality housing.
Once I tie up loose ends I am off.

gutted for you mate.. .that sounds like it would have been a dream life!.

The Caribbean like you say is beautiful, but i echo your comment on the weather...... forget the rain - its fine, and why it is so green out there but its the more brutal tropical storms. The uk climate may not be the most exciting in the world but at least it isnt out to kill us. For me the Caribbean is a holiday destination, not somewhere to lay roots (my 1st wedding, i was married on a Caribbean cruise ship and we hopped around quite a few islands)

I think for me the places i would go would be radically different if it was somewhere to move to if i had to carry on working, vs somewhere to move to to retire and just have my pension paid.

honestly if i am still working i doubt i will leave where i am now, in my field the area around cambs is as good as anywhere work wise.

it is my retirement that i have designs on moving somewhere nice and in that sense employment opportunities do not matter to me, i just want nice weather, nice scenery and welcoming people (and ideally a cheaper cost of living than Cambridge)

but like you Brexit has peed on my chips on some of my plans.

That's nice to hear. Good for you.

the comment on council tax - rejuvinating economy(jobs/hospitals/schools/roads) in those areas by ensuring punitive council taxes for rich folks holiday homes
The Welsh Government announced new legislative measures in March 2022, focusing on tax. From April 2023, local councils will be able to raise the maximum council tax premium on second homes to 300% (up from the 100% limit set in 2017). In addition, new regulations have been set in place to increase the number of days that self-catering accommodation must be let to qualify for business rates.

Um, none to be honest.

I live in a leafy south eastern part of the UK. Hardly many places better to live in the world. Likely would just move to the west country at some point.

I mean, maybe a Greek island simply for the water and climate, but the "opportunity" for that is now a lot harder thanks to half of our population.
