Qualifying in just over an hour at 1400 bst... Hoping to be out on my bike by then in this overcast but warm weather.
 
I feel that under this different race format, if it's for the fans and the spectacle, then the clock should be stopped if there's a red flag. After all if track repairs were to be required it could wipe out much of the session creating the opposite of what is intended...
 
No practise time generally creates a more topsy turvy grid though. But you're right, they lost what 20 mins of the 1hr 45 or so they get on a Friday, so 20% but then if you do extend it then the schedule for TV etc and support races goes to pot.
 
Was gutted by alpines signing of Ocon for 3 years.
Then losing alonso.
Gasley and Ocon are mediocre drivers. And to me the weakest part of alpines complete package. Especially compared to piastri and norris.
 
Interesting thought about sprint not affecting full race.

Someone like gasley.. Now near last. Unlikely to get to the points in the sprint and now no gain for the main race.. Its it even worth trying?

The grid for sprint is set by sprint qualifying tomorrow, not this qualifying, so he could just as easily qualify nearer the front for that and decide to try and get points from the sprint and give up on the main race where he'll be starting (edit - nearly) last

Ah I thought this quali was applied to both races.
 
Merc going backwards.

They looked good last race, but positively midfield today. Their driver line up probably flatters the car somewhat too. Would probably be even further down with an average pairing.
 
Apart from mclaren jumping up the times looks fairly similar to early season.

Merc falling behind and Alpine too
