The Russians were absolutely arguing about Sweden and Finland. It was another of their red lines I believe, or very similar terminology.

They backed down when the realised there was nothing they could do about it.

The ones that joined NATO recently were pushed into it by Putin himself invading Ukraine.

He created the problem, Ukraine weren't joining, they will be now. again he has made it happen.

Not only has he destroyed his country but he has also made it so everyone around him is in NATO.

Yes he has destroyed his country, they are a pariah state now. They have BRICS but the currency wont ever replace the Dollar simply because the dollar is still king and BRICS arent knocking that of the top spot any time ever.

They will use their currency between themselves but it wont last long as Russian currency is almost worthless or soon will be.

Including moving nukes close to there and talk about having Kalingrad surrounded raising tensions and meaning they may have to take action against Lithuania

99% of what Russia does is words. The problem is the 1% can come from any words they speak.
 
They were very much bothered by Finland, that will about double the NATO border in one go.

Thing is the Finn's have a habit of handing Russia it's backside and kept on top of their military and national service.

Well Russias main comment was we dont mind then joining as long as no nato infrastructure is there.
Whatever that means. I mean when finland joined all the finnish infrastructure became NATO infrastructure if anything is classed as NATO infrastructure.

Finland being invaded by russia , twice, in the last 80 years would give pause for thought wouldnt it.

What else will happen is everyone that can will get nukes

NATO is a defensive pact. It's like having security concerns about your next door neighbour when they lock their front door. Pull the other one.. We know why Russia don't want NATO expansion. It's because it crushes their dreams of raising the old Imperial Empire by invading non-NATO aligned countries.

So you think the US should be fine if Russia were to place nuclear weapons in Mexico or Cuba? The US does have bases in many NATO counties where they keep nuclear weapons

But every non nuclear power neighbouring Russia should be cool about them swinging their weapons around and do nothing to defend themselves.

Russia doesn't have a right to have buffer countries surrounding itself so it can feel all soft and warm, just because.

My guess would be this is the one Putin thought he could stop.

He wasn't in charge of Russia when Poland joined and when Latvia/Lithuania joined his army was still being rebuilt following the post soviet collapse (comically it was probably in better shape then lol).

It's also worth remembering this isn't actually the first time he's invaded a neighbour for getting too pally with the EU/NATO, he invaded Georgia in 2008 and trashed their military bases/etc primarily to quash their NATO ambitions.

That is because you are. You're plan is for Ukraine to fold and give Russia what it wants as that is the only thing Putin would accept. Ukraine doesn't get to choose its own destiny, who its future partners are, they acquiesce to Putin's demands that they not join the EU or NATO, Russia gets all the territory it wants including Crimea and Ukraine just has to hope Putin won't make a play for the whole country again once they've rebuilt their military. All the time Putin will be using the Russian state in interfere in Ukraine, undermine the government, corrupt its officials, commit sabotage.

Your problem Roar is you think Putin/Russia is a party that can be trusted to negotiate in good faith and then uphold any agreements/treaties it might agree to. Nothing could be further from the truth and Ukraine knows this better than anyone.

Poor little Russia who everyone bullies and never does anything bad, nothing like using chemical weapons on another nations soil, invading other countries etc
When you compare to big bad NATO bullies constantly, erm war gaming I guess

I mean Ukraine would hardly go down this route if they believed capitulation to be a better outcome. The fact is we’ve seen Russia’s war of terror in Ukraine, at its worst raping and mutilating children, but don’t worry, Roar knows better than every western leader that has decided to side with Ukraine.
