how do the UK tax payers feel about paying Ukraine 10 Billion and more during a cost of living crisis, where 1 in 4 families cannot afford food and clothing, 1 in 3 with children being affected, wouldn't that 10 billion plus help UK tax paying citizens during this tough time?

Same thing with America, they issued like 80 billion already.
I'm very comfortable with tax payers money being used to help Ukraine. I sleep well at night knowing at least a portion of my tax money is being put to a worthy cause. Also lets not get carried away. This 10bn would never have been spent to aid our own people. A lot of the aid given has come out of existing aid/military budgets.

A little bit, yes. I certainly don't pretend it means a lot.

Well, at least there's a little consistency in your position.

I have friends and relatives in the UK. They're fine with supporting Ukraine, and so am I.

The UK is a rich nation, she doesn't need to stop money to Ukraine in order to support struggling UK taxpayers. £10 billion is 0.33% of the UK's GDP. That's not even peanuts, it's barely a rounding error. Moreover, it's coming from a part of the budget that's already reserved for this purpose. It's not being snatched from social security or pensions.

The real problem is that the Tories don't want to support struggling UK taxpayers. It's not that they don't have the money, it's that they're too busy giving it to rich people instead.

Same thing with America, they issued like 80 billion already.

LOL, 0.35% of GDP to decimate Russia's military. Exceptional value.

Bigger picture.

-Budapest Memorandum - sure they are assurances rather than guarantees but if we go back on those assurances it makes it that much harder in the future in related negotiations.
-Larger conflict in Europe - anyone who thinks this would/is contained just to Ukraine is fooling themselves - as the Americans have found ignoring problems in Europe just costs them more in the longer run. Sure I don't think Putin had his eye on a general invasion of Europe but rolling over Ukraine would have had him moving on to the next target and seeing how far he could push it risking an article 5 situation.
-Potential for conflict in the Baltics - every Russian tank, plane, etc. destroyed in Ukraine makes it less likely our troops are going to end up in a conventional defence of the Baltic states.

Not great, but bear in mind that the increase in energy and food prices and hence rise in inflation across the board can be attributed directly to Putin's aggression in Ukraine. Its not the sole reason, but certainly a very significant factor. This is one of those cases where the cost of NOT doing it would be far greater over the long term. Letting a bunch of thieving scum be in charge of your fate isn't going to go well.

Sorry, I forgot there was a particular message to be distracted from. Reported the OP to the mods so they can edit the title to include "no distractions" so that we can avoid talking about any topics not deemed on message.

Take the L and realise your little point was rightly called out as petty and pointless. Who cares what the man is wearing?

On top of that, not resisting Russian aggression would embolden China over Taiwan.

Very happy for money to go towards a good cause for once. Send more stuff.

Going back a minute though:

*Biden: Russians Have Suffered Over 100,000 Casualties in Bakhmut

I don't believe Biden on figures ever - I've not forgotten his 300K in Afghanistan claim

But there are multiple sources which show Russian casualties in that area to be well into the upper 10s of thousands - even Wagner's own occasional claims would put casualties north of 40K.

I can see why this might initially seem remarkable, but it isn't. Posts per day is pretty high at ~80ppd since the main activity started around 2 years ago, but going by pure number of views or posts:views ratio, it's not particularly special:

As for Ukraine topic, how can anyone take the image of world leaders gathering in suits and Zelensky turning up in a jumper as anything but pure theatre?
Seriously, you think Zelensky should wear a suit, Why? Is it compulsory to wear a suit because everyone else does, he made it clear what he will wear, is that not ok comrade?

A little bit, yes. I certainly don't pretend it means a lot.
So we shouldn't remember our war dead then, just let them fade into the history books never to be remembered?

The poppy is a remembrance once a year for the sacrifices our grandfathers made, you disgrace their memory.

I think you are confusing having an opposing view with having an objective view, though I don't disagree that objective views don't tend to go down well when it comes to this war either.

"I support Ukraine, but I fear a wider conflict could eventually escalate to a nuclear exchange, the cost to humanity would be unimaginable"

"Is your mother also a coward, Roar?"

"I support Ukraine, but I feel that a greater emphasis on diplomacy over the past 25 years may have helped avoid this tragic conflict"

"How does Putins **** taste, Roar?"

If you were to take that "10 billion" (and I assume it's pounds) and forget that it's mainly older weapons we are giving them, not actual cash money

Then it would give every UK citizen a staggering £149 each. Not really enough to make a huge difference.

Of course if you gave it to the people in poverty, then it's more like £700 each, which is more significant but less than the UK government is giving people towards their energy costs.

To be fair to him, he took that figure from SIGAR - which said 300k+ had been trained up by 2021.

However, that did included 118k police, who aren't military.
