Ukraine benefits from the war escalating, I think Zelensky has noticeably tried to emulate Winston Churchills tactic of dragging America into the war - understandable from his point of view since realistically that is the only way he can win. These attacks on Moscow are closer to the Doolittle raids than anything serious, but Ukraine should realise they risk alienating countries that support them if they attack Moscow.

LOL.

I'm selling oceanfront property in Nevada. Buy now, and receive this free bridge I found in Brooklyn!

I thought the policy was that Western weapons were to be used against inter country targets and not on Russian soil.

If Ukraine want to develop their own weapon systems to strike targets in Russia, then that is their prerogative and should absolutely be allowed to do so.

Escalation keeps getting banded around like some kind of buzz word. Without anyone really knowing what avenues of escalation there are.

Wait, wasn't this war started by The evil NATOs in the first place, expanding INTO Ukraine ?

Why would Ukraine need to drag the US into a war you claim the US started ?

Tbf I don't even care about escalation anymore I mean what can Russia actually do now?

How many times have we been threatened with Nukes in the last couple of months alone ignoring the last 2 years. Unless Russia actually uses nukes there is no escalation. At least from my perspective it's just a boy who cried wolf although each time Russia cries wolf they use a bigger megaphone.

You can't get a larger escalation than nukes and we've had that threat endlessly and nothing has followed up. I don't worry about it any more.

As things stand, unless Putin goes stark raving mad, the calculation really on nukes is does it put Putin's arse in the firing line. Don't think he wouldn't use them if he could get away with it because he absolutely would.

I believe I can explain.

Apparently NATO started this war by provoking Russia to attack Ukraine(?) so that Ukraine would want to join NATO(??) which she cannot do while at war with Russia(???)

But now that Ukraine is losing, she needs to drag NATO into the war they've been a part of all along because they started it(????) so she can survive long enough to join NATO(?????) which she cannot do because she is fighting Russia(??????)

It's brilliant!

:D :p

I didn't claim that. The US backed a pro EU government in Ukraine in 2010, they then supported the Ukraine military in fighting Russian backed separatists in Eastern Ukraine since 2014. These events lead to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022. I don't think the US wanted or expected that to happen, the invasion by Russia is obviously illegal and wrong, but we crossed enough red lines simply expecting it wouldn't happen. Now it's probable that Ukraine will simply never regain the territory it has lost and tens of thousands of people are dead.

If I had £5 for every time the bedwetters have told us everyone has to give Putin whatever he wants because otherwise he'll drop a nuke and it'll somehow be NATO's fault that we're all going to die next Tuesday unless Zelensky capitulates, I could buy Twitter from old mate and retire this evening.

There were no genuine separatists in Eastern Ukraine in 2014. There was only an illegal and completely unjustified Russian invasion.

Even if Ukraine had been fighting genuine separatists, that would still not provide any legal or moral justification for Russia invading Ukraine. If Russia had genuine concerns she should have taken them to the UN, where she is a Security Council member with veto power.

Russia is a great fan of complaining about the West intervening in countries to support local uprisings, but apparently it's perfectly fine for Putin to justify his invasions by claiming this is exactly what he's doing.

The hypocrisy from the developing world is beyond galling at times.

No genuine separatists?

Check here, there was loads of them, all born in Ukraine? There was literally a civil war in Ukraine.

Even if Ukraine had been fighting genuine separatists

Yes, they have.

that would still not provide any legal or moral justification for Russia invading Ukraine.

I agree, I typed that in my post.

See.

Again?

the invasion by Russia is obviously illegal and wrong

Clearly you are missing the point that most of the separatists were Russian, and recruitment was done by Russia. Most of the people were brought in from Russia to that region.

Your link even says it.

There would have been no "civil war" as you put it, without Russia being the one doing all the action.

There was literally not a civil war in Ukraine. There was an insurgency led by Russian militias, resulting in an attempted coup by Pavel Gubarev, who tried to claim the position of governor in Donetsk.

These militias were proxies of the Russian Armed Forces. They were not Ukrainians rising up against Zelensky and demanding independence from the rest of Ukraine.

Over time, they admitted that they had been trained in Russia, that they were armed and supplied by Russia, and that they had thousands of Russian citizens in their ranks. Later, it also emerged that they were commanded by Russian Army officers.

Earlier this year, Putin finally conceded that many of these so-called 'separatists' were actually Russian combat veterans.

(Thanks for that helpful Wikipedia article, which contains all of this information).

I agree, I typed that in my post.

And yet you blame the wrong side for that invasion. All of the blame lies with Russia. All of it. NATO is blameless. Ukraine is blameless. Even the US—for once in her vile, blood soaked history—is blameless.

I literally said "Russian backed separatists". Pavel Gubarev was born in Ukraine, no?

DPR/LPR is somewhat like southern Ireland getting backing from the USA, having troops and equipment from the USA and then doing all the recruiting. Then claiming it's civil war.

Where did it happen in Ukraine? In places with high percentages of RUSSIANS. Where they had historically displaced the regions natives.

There's always a big BUT isn't there.

Backed ? with what ? what was the red lines ?

generally positive statements to Ukrainians having free and fair elections and the ability to oust a corrupt puppet of Russia as their leader ?

Yes how dare they, the ungrateful hohols and is totally a justified red line to murder and rape the country. it's their own fault really.
