Bit of a random question but why are there so many new bikes being made in this day and age without fuel gauges? Are they considered a bit uncool or something? Pretty baffling!
my bike is 27 years old and no gauge or reserve, just a fuel warning light. i reset the trip every time i fill up so that i know my range.

Well I'm finally looking to buy my first bike after passing my test a year ago

Been eyeing up a CBR600, nothing special, just a commuter and something to start getting the NCB up.

Hopefully going on Friday to have a look :D

Belated congrats on passing your test. A CBR600 is a powerful bike for a 1st bike. I'm not saying don't do it, it all depends on you. If you intend to ride really fast without experience there's a fair chance you'll come off. CBR600's imo are great bikes great allrounders well built look good. Good luck!

Cheers bud, I have no intention of hooning it around, If I ever came off my wife would kill me and that's the kind of hassle I could do without .

Technically it's not my first bike... but it would be my first bike in 23 years .

I think you might be confusing the CBR600 for the CBR600RR, the former isn’t all that powerful. Has a lovely smooth Honda engine though, ideal first bike as it’s not too aggressive.

I'm thinking about the cbr600f which has 109bhp, imo that's powerful for a 1st bike.

It might seem that way but it’s honestly very manageable, won’t get you into trouble unless you’re doing 90 into a bend.

It’s a bland engine but really smooth, good throttle response and it does pick up well but certainly shouldn’t be enough to put off a first time rider.

I’ve had one and I’ve had mates who’ve passed their DAS and gone onto a 600f for a first bike and ended up moving it on pretty quickly.

Maybe, i think i might be a bit old school in thinking about 1st time bikes. When i started riding road bikes the progression was 125s, 250s, etc. A 100+bhp bike was a rare thing and certainly not recommended for a 1st timer. Times have changed now i suppose. I would still say something like a 50bhp ninja 400 is an ideal starter bike.

Yeah i probably should have mentioned it was the 600F and not the RR... my bad.

So i put a deposit down on the CBR600f on saturday... Should be collecting middle of July :D

Reason being I don't want my Car insurance and Bike Insurance all to come out in the same month... and the guy I'm buying from is away from the 1st - 15th July.

Toying with the idea of flogging the S1000R.... or trading it in, I quite fancy something different - my riding is mainly nadgery B roads that calimoto finds; so like the idea of maybe something lighter and not so 'serious' (as in not a superbike without fairings lol). But also want something I can do my 300 odd miles rideouts on - so been eyeing up the KTM Duke 890R.

Not sure if I can be bothered with all the hassle of selling though - the last bike I sold was my GSXR 750 K7 back in 2011, everything since has been a trade in.

Just pipe dreams at the moment, maybe a test ride will either seal the deal, or put me off...

Rode the wife's Vespa in today just to keep the fluids moving ad the battery slightly healthy. For context, I work at the Natural History Museum and on the way to work I go past both a Ferrari and a Lamborghini dealer, and this little Vespa just causes rubbernecks everywhere. It gets more looks than all the Lambos and Ferraris that infest this area, it's honestly quite something to see. People love it. And I love it. Such a hoot to ride, nothing else comes remotely close for this area.

Anyone recommend a good degreaser for matte plastic? Got a bit trigger happy earlier and there’s now grease spots on my fairings.

Fairy liquid, soft cloth, let it soak for 20 mins or so and scrub slowly. Degreaser can be rather nasty on plastic.

Just wondering how long people kept their first big bike ?
I got my full license in January and was in a reasonably fortunate position to buy a trident 660 the day I passed.
5 months later I'm already eyeing up xsr900s and speed twins!
Is this all part of bike ownership and the hunt never really ends ? in all honesty aside from being a bit small the trident is an amazing bike and I don't really need anything else!
