The US should donate all the F14s they've got sitting in The Boneyard. I mean, if it's good enough for Maverick.
Plus I'd love to see F14 fly again. Best plane ever.
It's a cool looking plane for sure (not as cool as the SR-71 Blackbird IMO) but the last I read on F14's was the US had 'shredded' all remaining F14's from it's inventory to stop any possibility if Iran getting it's hands on spare parts for it's aging F14 fleet.

It only a matter of time sadly a lot of sacrifice on the way but Crimea will be taken.

If they carve a path through to the Black Sea everything west of if is in real danger, without logistics to support operations it would essentially be a large encirclement.

Difficult though, as you'll need to fight on both sides to do that, a front that shifts along behind you is easier as you don't then expect enemies from behind and in front of you.

Tokmak is the key for the SW chunk of occupied lands. (SSW of Robotyne). Its quite heavily protected by defense lines though.
That is where the only main rail line that goes West goes through. The Ruskies would then be forced to use basically only the M14 road for major movements and that could be blasted to hell.

All these F16s are all old stock due to be upgraded to more modern fighters. Handing them over to Ukraine is allowing these planes to do the job they were built for 20~30 years ago.
Still a very capable machine 30 years ago, technology has evolved obviously but these things still pack a punch. They will do a very good job, just prey the Russians cant shoot them out the sky with ease.

I always remember in the 80's when tensions were very high between the Superpowers the experts said that the lifespan of a fighter pilot was only going to be a few minutes.

Wonder if any F16 pilots are joining the Ukraine international Legion.
They can join as infantry if they wanted to but there's no way Ukraine is going to allow anyone who is not a Ukrainian national and qualified pilot near those aircraft. Just imagine the scandal of allowing a foreigner taking off in you new state of the art jet only for that person to fly it to a Russian airbase.

I was watching The Times Radio Youtube channel on the way to work this morning, they were talking to Professor Michael Clark on how Ukraine would use the F16's and how they stack up to the Russian Jet's.

25 mins long in total but the jet part is in the first 10mins or so.

TLDW - The F16 won't give Ukraine air superiority over all of Ukraine as the Russian Airforce is simply to big and strong for a handful of Jets to secure the sky but it will give Ukraine local air dominance and the ability to push Russian air assets back or keep them at base. The weapons it can use means it overmatches everything up to and including the MIG-31 and older and has an edge on the SU-37.

If Putin was going to launch a tactical nuke, Belarus would be a great place to do it from.

The country is under a fascist dictatorship, under Putin's control, so the people (who voted similarly to the citizens of Ukraine) are effectively now human shields.

Are you sure about those terms?
Air supremacy over Ukraine I think is what people think will happen, it won't, thats the NATO expected level dominance.
Air superiority should happen at local level with F16s which is the ability to undertake operations with no/limited impact from the enemy.

Exactly how much diff the F16s will make is going to depend on which planes and which missiles they are given.

Yet again the western nations are being shown up for lack of depth. The meteor Rroff mentions above is the UK missile, its seriously good. Its not even standard equipment on all flights, and even if they are equipped its not a full loadout.
We simply don't have enough.

There is an interesting group on youtube called the grim reapers. They mainly re-enact / theory craft invasions etc
There is a good one from last week or so where they theory craft the Argies going for the Falklands again, based on Argentina probably getting F16s as well!
Which F16s and which missiles they can equip makes a big diff.

I might have mixed those terms up in all honesty, but essentially where the F16 are being used Ukraine will have the advantage was what the professor was saying.

I don't have a problem with the Argies getting F16 airframes (how they going to pay for them? Cattle?) I would be concerned their able to purchase the latest and greatest Air to Air missiles.
