Seen the first tank v tank combat with western tank.

Can't link but it's on Twitter. A Leopard 2 tank takes on a couple Russian T tanks, unsure which model. The Leopard takes out one of the Russian tanks and then the second tank turns around and runs away

Well when you say 'takes one out' you mean it hit one with a HE?! shell and both russian tanks drove away.

Not ideal really when a 2nd or 3rd tier russian tank can basically walk away from the latest European MBT.

What I don't understand is why European countries are taking delivers of the latest Leo 2s A8 variant while giving ukraine Leo 1's... with it's inferior gun, Hull, turret armour etc

Why not just give them the latest tanks, no other countries in Europe really.needs A8's right now as they aren't at war.

How? What could Wagner possibly have done against NATO countries that wouldn't be (a) utterly futile and (b) considered to have been ordered by Russia.

Indeed. The fact that Wagner was just an extension of the Russian Security Services acting overseas was common knowledge long before the invasion of Ukraine started. Wagner also got a taste of western fire power in 2018 in Syria in an incident known as the battle of Khasham, I’d doubt they’d be keen to repeat the experience.

The Leopard missed it’s first shot. The Russian tanks used smoke and retreated it seemed.

What about former Soviet states European countries that aren't in NATO? e.g. Finland and Sweden. I could have seen Russia testings NATOs resolve by invading those two if Ukraine had been steam rolled

The current discussion was sparked by a quote from a Russian general stating that conflict with the rest of "Eastern Europe" was inevitable.

There's no universal definition of "Eastern Europe" but it's typically (in this context) considered to mean Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Romania, etc.

In that context, the point remains that attacking any of those countries is a whole different ballpark than attacking Ukraine. Due, of course, to NATO membership. A point reinforced by how desperate Ukraine is to join ASAP.

Sure, but you said Putin has lost support, well only recently Russia attended the Brics summit and they invited 6 new member countries to join. Another 14 have applied to join. Russia and Putin aren't some international pariah state, it's really only the West. Why would all these countries wish to join a new organisation with Russia as one of the major founding members? Most of the world outside of the West have little interest in the Ukraine war except hoping that it doesn't spiral out of control.

Confirmed by the G20 not really speaking too much about Ukraine. I'm always wrong though.

Ukraine has paid a heavy price for such limited gains this year, will anyone bother to negotiate or will we see another 50-100k dead young men next year?

Finland has been a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization since 4 April 2023.

Saying Finland was part of Russia is like saying Britain was part of Hanover.
The USSR invaded Finland, but Finland was never part of Russia.
Russia invaded (and captured) Finland in 1808 and were part of the Russian empire until 1917.

Check your history

To be fair they are not Russia as it stands today. Russia of today rose out of the ashes of destroying imperial Russia. Ironically they've gone almost full circle and ended up with a despot in charge again.

What price do you think Ukrainians would pay living under Putin's reign of terror enlightened and benevolent democracy?

Mind you, I hear the gulags are lovely this time of year.
