I feel you are being naive to think there was no indication from the amount of phone traffic that something was about to happen. I would think the Israelis know where Hamas are constantly. It's doesn't really matter know. It will only end one way. Lots of innocent people will die

Many people are utterly clueless and see this type of conflicts as a neutral football match so they cheer for the underdog.
 
Too many vested interests involved that want or need the conflict to never have a resolution.

If Israel was serious about dealing with Hamas they'd go to Qatar instead.

If you are talking about the scientist helping the likes of Iran with its nuclear program then good. The last thing the world needs are those loons having nukes. Gods help all of us if that happens.

The majority of those scientists are forced by Iran to work on the projects. Their families are held under house arrest and have the threat of torture and/or execution hanging over them.

What do the British and Americans call that, collateral damage. If you gonna harbour terrorists that's what happens. Exactly what Hamas wants, that why they hide their weapons in built up areas.

More seriously I don't know what the solution is. Palestinians (not Hamas) don't hate Israel, and similarly Israel shares so much common ground with its neighbours there is no reason why something can be achieved. However you're right I think we're too far gone and the innocent will suffer ..

It would help if people like USA didn't blindly support Israel. They could help defuse the situation but the skeptic in me thinks it's too lucrative to keep tensions high in the middle east.
