Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th - 29th October 2023]

Messi winning feels a bit off. Yes, I know he won the world cup, but aside from that, he's not really been the player he once was. Haaland, meanwhile, had an absolutely ridiculous season in arguably the hardest league in the world, won the treble, broke virtually every scoring record for a single season we had, and just blew everyone away. Feels wrong that he's not going to win it

Messi did carry that team through the World Cup, which is the greatest prize in football. How he got what he did out of his team mates is crazy, that team on paper wasn’t great, their love and respect for him is mental. He did fine on club level too in a pretty toxic team.

What City did as a team is heroic, at least Haaland was recognised and picked up an award.

Haaland robbed but as to be expected from this mickey mouse award. So inconsistent with the approach.

Haaland was simply on different levels last year

Wonder how they can shoehorn Messi in next year plying his trade in a league at championship standard at best

How many other players got it for winning the World Cup when messi was having record seasons at Barcelona? I know it’s seen as the pinnacle but world cup football is mickey mouse compared to most leagues or champions league football.

For this year only they have massively over valued the World Cup. How strange.

Indeed. So insonsistent but nostalgia played a big part this year imo. Has been a few hugely questionable winners over the years

But hey ho they won't be able to get away with it next year with him playing in the MLS.
