******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I unfortunately feel it's the fate of most pc games to just fall foul to hacking/cheating. One of the positive about consoles if I were a MP kinda person.

Doing it in alpha is beyond pathetic to be honest, but hopefully there are permanent bans handed out to those proven to cheat and the bar to entry is never as low as some games which struggle with cheats like Rust.

Does anti cheat work?

Maybe use the ones fifa and cod uses dare I say it because those hardly have any cheats as it would affect the revenue of those games

No anti-cheat is perfect, but what supplements it is server side logging, tooling and alerting. They are already developing this but are unlikely to alert anyone to how this works at least until after release. There's no reason to.

I can see SC being one of the most anti-cheater communities though so I'm honestly not stressed about it.

There have been some incidents in the past - though mostly linked to abuse of position by developers rather than players cheating.

There aren't many ways to cheat in PVP gameplay in the game though due to the nature of it - the server is fully authoritative - there are/were ways to manipulate grids (the areas of space in the game which were active due to a player being there) which in some cases could be considered cheating though.

For awhile there was a "bug" in the trading window which allowed someone to inject code and alter the terms of a transaction after both parties had agreed - which personally I suspect didn't just happen by accident due to the nature of it.

Likewise there was a bug which allowed an unscrupulous player to DDOS attack system nodes with a certain amount, but not total, of reliability able to disconnect certain players but not others which could be used to alter the outcome of a fight - but I rarely saw it used in my experience - probably due to the chance of it going wrong - but maybe in some areas of the game it was used more by disruptive players who just wanted to cause chaos for their amusement.

EDIT: Ages back there was stats published which showed of player bans 4% were for client modification - of which probably half of those were with intention to gain an unfair advantage in PVP - many of the rest likely for extra info in PVE, and many of the rest were banned for using macros to automate things like mining.
