******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Hang on, I was being daft. If I press F1 I appear to have 34,000 aUEC! Is that good???? How come I have so much cash? I signed up for the free fly thing last week but didn't really do much or even try to buy anything. Is it that, did I get some sort of free gift? - Dunno, it's just starting cash to get you some armour/guns. It's not a large amount.

Sorry for any silly questions but I have absolutely NO IDEA what I'm doing here :D

Also, where's my helmet!? - Press i to open inventory
Why can't I drink from a bottle of water? - If your helmet is off, hold left click if the bottle is in your hand
Why can I interact with some touch screens and not others? - Some are just for show. Depends which ones you're talking about
Why can I not get back in my room that I started in? It says open and is green on the touchpad outside. In fact all the rooms do. - It's not 'your' room. It's just a spawning point
Where are the med beds you mention? in the medical section (in New Babbage I think) and can't find any - There are screens in the entrance area. Click on one and it'll direct you to a room
What the hell am I doing? - I dunno
Why did I finance a ponzi scheme? - Because it's pretty and you're a sucker. Welcome to the club

CBA to multiquote :)

This seems like a decent guide with chapters.

If you started the Tutorial you get your helmet if you follow it at some point.

Why can't I drink from a bottle of water?
Take your helmet off :D if you're holding the water in your hand just hold left mouse until you have drank it all.

Why can I interact with some touch screens and not others?
Not every screen is intractable.

Why can I not get back in my room that I started in? It says open and is green on the touchpad outside. In fact all the rooms do.
Once you left that room it does back in the queue for the next citizen victim, you don't own that room persistently.

You need to book a room at the hospital reception screen.

What the hell am I doing?
Being a Star Citizen nOOb, own it, enjoy it, its like childhood, once its over you don't get to live it again until you reach about 80.

Why did I finance a ponzi scheme?
You have 30 days to get your money back.

They discussed at CitCon their desire to resolve the pop-in. They are actually using a similar things to Nanite, it was discussed a few pages back of this thread :) however note that Nanite wouldn't actually work in scale of SC for any game on UE5 either because you would have a base 2TB game size which isn't realistically feasible.

However they are updating the render pass to do what nanite does but using Nvidia white paper to do a similar thing. They will do the GPU render pass, it check culling initially so it can calculate what it renders based on camera angle, kinda like how things check for screen-space reflections and thus they are not rendering what can't be seen and then you are just cluster swapping LODs from level 1 to 7. It basically culls enough triangles to make higher LODs closer to you not eat the total render budget. Now they say they are LOD-less because you are actually creating the different LOD models yourself, you are setting parameters that on the fly to control the LOD so Nanite as such has the ability to have 1000 LOD levels or whatever and it can cull the triangles at all those levels depending on how far from the camera the object is basically.

But yeah it being worked on and hopefully resolved. The second version of the engine video had cleaned up a lot of the pop & stutter.

Thanks for the update. I don't have any more time these days and I'm too tired to check everything. Even the stuff from citizen con i missed :(

Anyway, I didn't mean necessarily movie quality photogrammetry. ArmA 3 can render quite far away (not sure if there is a new update or just a mod), right now around 40km for land, objects and shadows. Feels incredible, more "next gen" than a lot of next gen games, but... runs pants due to DX11 and other bottlenecks.

Honestly discoverying this stuff is part of the fun, once you do - it'll be second nature in game.

and you can always refund in the new couple of weeks if you want to wait until it's actually released as a game in 20 years time !

I'll try and answer some of these quickly :D -Edit: And then get sidetracked by work and not post for ages...
A lot of this depends on your current situation. Assuming you've just died or got nothing on. Go to the hospitals and open your inventory (I), there might be a undersuit and helmet there. There's a hospital only inventory that you get given a free suit when you respawn.
If you're holding a bottle in your hand and the bottle is not empty, you should be able to hold use (F) and there will be a Drink option. If you left click once to select the drink, you can then hold left click down and you'll drink the entire bottle in one go.
Some screens are only decoration and sometimes it's server lag.
The spawn rooms are exit only, as they're spawn rooms :D The hospital rooms you need to use one of the panels normally at the front doors, to request a room. But there's nothing in the rooms. Inventory is station / outpost wide generally.
It depends on the hospital, there tends to be a reception desk or something simmilar near the entrance that'll have a couple screens, click them to request a room, find room, lie down on bed. You'll get auto healed for hp and food/drink. Or there's screen opens once lying down.
Sandbox so... :D Explore a bit. Recomendation is of course join some of us on discord and voice / join an org (The Blackadders is mine, link in 1st post of thread) or ask in global chat. Chat is of course hit or miss.
Something, something, no other game is doing what Starcitizen is trying. :D

Thanks for the replies folks! I might be tapping you with more dozy questions soon so go easy on me....

On paper, this game is the sort of thing I dreamed of as a kid. I suspect the reality won't be anywhere near it, but I'm more than willing to give it a go. I don't really 'do' online gaming, more of a single player to be honest so not sure what legs Star Citizen will have for me. I do like just ******* about and experimenting with stuff though.

P.S. I still canny find me helmit!

TBF sometimes (often) my inventory bugs and I can't see my helmet in the inventory, then a patch happens and suddenly I have it back as well as all the other ones I purchased.

watch from 42m mark to see the new salvage mechanics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C1cK65rAsg

See how the Vulture now queues the materials in storage until you set it to fill and dispense boxes?

No more running up and down the stairs for every box while salvaging.

Also, now people can make a career out of cleaning up all the ship carcasses left behind by noobies, and me....
