That would be impressive given that Libya retired theirs twenty years ago and Iraq's were destroyed in Operation Desert Storm ;)

For those who don't get the joke, the Tu-22 was an old Soviet supersonic bomber from the fifties, it was replaced by the Tu-22M 40+ years ago (proberbly the plane Twitter is trying to refer to). Comical note: Legend has it that the reason the two planes share such a similar name is because the Soviet air force demanded money to replace the Tu-22 because it was **** but Moscow said no, so they asked instead for money to upgrade/enhance the Tu-22 and got it, then spent it on a completely new plane :p

Sadly i think its fake news anyway so apologise for jumping the gun so to speak on posting it

Meanwhile, let's revisit this very special moment from the wrongest man on the internet...

In fairness, given that's from 17/02/22 he sounds no different than 99% of the posts in this thread at the time :P

The UK needs to signal 5% GDP defence spending budget in March at the latest and for it to be top of the manifesto in any general election.
Would be good but I just can't see it to be honest. It's pretty much an open secret in Westminster currently that the general election will be in May, can you really imagine Hunt or Sunak standing up and saying "Hey guys, we know you're all really struggling with the cost of living crisis, so we've decided to more than double the amount of your taxes that we spend on the armed forces. This will in turn increase the amount of stuff we can give away. Please remember to vote for us in two months time! :D"

Some context is required there. Ukraine's own air defence systems can't shot down ballistic missiles, S300 and BUK was never designed for that (S300 was designed to take away NATO's air advantage) but they can shot them down with Patriot provided there is coverage.
On the plus side it was reported that the FrankenSAMs are starting to make their operational debut in Ukraine so that should help.

For those unaware the "FrankenSAM" programs basically consist of converting Buk launchers to fire US Sea Sparrow missiles, and an as yet unnamed launcher to fire Sidewinder missiles.

Apparently an object entered polish airspace which they have determined was a Russian missile. I look forward to the tut tut from Poland / nato
Poland should trap Russia.

Poland: This is unacceptable!!!
Russia: Aww c'mon dude it was a genuine accident, we're sorry.
Poland: Oh, well that's okay then, no problem.
Russia: Really? No hard feels?
Poland: Yup.
Russia: Cool.
Russia: OMG! Why is Sevastopol exploding!?!
Poland: Oops, my bad, no hard feels right?

Can it take out the anti ship missiles dosnt seem like any of them have been destroyed?
You mean the Kh-22? Those were old missiles designed in the 60's with the purpose of destroying or disabling American aircraft carriers, given Patriot can take out the smaller and newer Kinzhal I can't see why it couldn't be used to intercept a Kh-22. Russia likely knows what parts of Ukraine is protected by Patriot so they will only use the Kh-22 in locations where they know it can get through add to that due to it's size it can only be launched from strategic bombers which limits there usefulness hence why we haven't seen them intercepted yet as not that many have been used.

Ye just read answers here

Ukraine gave a load back to Russia only for them to be used on them now :(

Fun fact about the original TU-22 Blinder: It used bleed air from the engines to provide breathable air for the crew compartment, which was obviously hot and needed to be cooled before use. Thus, a cooling system that featured an evaporator that used a mix of 40% ethanol to 60% distilled water as coolant was installed. So, being manned by Russians, you can probably already see where this is going. Yes, they used to drink the coolant and get ******, sometimes paralytically so, leading to the nickname ‘the supersonic booze carrier’.

Thus, you do have to wonder whether the TU-22’s overall poor safety record and high crash rates were down to crap engines, poor cockpit visibility, ropey low speed handling characteristics, ****-faced crews or a combination of the above.

You know, considering it had a much better safety record in the hands of the poorer Muslim nations it was exported too, I think you're on to something there xD

In just one night, Russia spent on one massive attack on Ukraine: (in rubles)

20 billion more than the annual budget of the entire Ryazan region

Tambov budget for 16 years ahead

17 billion more than all Russian regions will receive for the utility infrastructure systems in 2024

Twice as much as was allocated to all regions of the Russian Federation for updating public transport in 2023

30% more than the Russian Ministry of Health allocates for equipment, repairs and construction of city clinics, district hospitals and rural medical posts

30 billion more than will be allocated for the construction of all schools in 64 regions of Russia

Only thing I would say in this regard, at the risk of giving them ideas, there are a lot of people in the UK who think we can bring back the manufacturing industry, etc. to the UK - if they can spin it in that way, i.e. investing in defence opening up jobs, it would likely be a vote winner.

Reading this morning's BEEB report.

The last line

"Russia said Ukrainian air defences were to blame for causing damage to civilian buildings."

Which is no doubt what the Russian people are swallowing. Crazy!

We do manufacture under licence Swedish anti tank etc. and BAE systems always likes some cash. However my proposal is not really to go big ticket items but maintaining a highly equipped and mobile if small armed forces. Supplying allies with armaments, we do make a few and rebuilding our own stocks.

Primarily it is to tell the world's dictators and terrorist states that we are still supporting our allies.

Russia - "How dare the Ukrainians blow up our missiles while they are innocently flying about and making them fall onto random hospitals and assorted children!"
