National insurance cut

Same thing every time round though isn't it. One gets in power, makes a mess. Next one gets in power, doesn't fix anything, makes further mess. Round and round in circles we go.

Under the last Labour government we had the longest period of economic growth since WWII; the NHS got better, with falling waiting lists and better care; schools got repaired and built; wages went up; crime went down; child poverty collapsed; hundreds of thousands fewer pensioners were in poverty; and on, and on, and on. Labour, once again, left the country better and stronger than they found it.

And then the Tories, as usual - although this time aided and abetted by the Lib Dems - trash the country and Labour, once again, are going to have to pick up the pieces after their economy and social incompetence.

Are the activists really telling you to post that nonsense online? Maybe they should be tempering expectations.. :D

The phrase 'there's no money left' comes to mind when I think of the last Labour government...;)

Not this time - on the rare occasions we get a Labour government normally they start with a strong Tory economy and lots of money to spend on their ridiculous manifesto pledges. This time they are not going to get their usual easy ride - they are going to suffer with the post covid impacts that the Tories have. They dont have a clue how hard this is going to be - hopefully they dont do too much damage in what will likely be a short tenure.

One things for sure - the the threads on here will be hilarious.. :D
You often hear phrases akin to 'you're only as good as your last fight' when it comes to boxing. In the context of UK government, the last 13 years have unequivocally demonstrated that the Tories are inept, corrupt and without question, not capable of governing any country, let alone what was one of the biggest economies in the world.

The NHS is in tatters, councils bankrupt, public services ripped to barebones, thousands of families left destitute, soaring homelessness, GDP down, growth down, less money in the majority of pockets (unless you're an MP or presenter on GB News) with demonstratable corruption at the highest echelons of government (all those lovely Covid VIP lane contracts). The list is endless and it's all recent history. This isn't 30p Lee fantasy land nonsense. This is all real.

Yet, with all this evidence, all the recent history, you've got n111ck from Overclockers UK who believes a party from 13 years ago, will somehow be worse than the governing party of the last 13 years. Absolutely incredible.

Next you'll be bringing up Corbyn or the mystic letter saying no money is left.

TBF Ken Clarke left the economy in fantastic shape in 1997. And then Gordon Brown brought and end to boom and bust......

I guess you've never bothered to look into the history of notes left by one party to another, huh?

Remind me, did the debt go up or down during the disaster that was the 2010-2015 Tory/LibDem government? Did their massive assault on the countries public services, wages, and the quality of life actually pay any dividends or did they repeatedly miss their own targets for deficit and debt as their abject economic incompetence strangled growth?

Oh, and since you brought up the global credit crunch and its impact, remind me: what were Osborne and Cameron saying about subprime markets in the months before the crisis hit? What was it, again? Oh, yes, they said they were a wonderful idea that we should have more of and that the UK should remove restrictions on the banking sector to let them engage in more of that kind of thing. Thank goodness we didn't have those absolute buffoons in charge at the time.

I'd suggest booking a GP appointment to have your head looked at but you might be waiting too long, sorry!

RemindMe! 12 months :D

p.s. I go private..

Actually it was the longest period of growth on record—problem is they overspent and caused a financial crisis, which crashed the economy and necessitated a bailout, which we're still recovering from nearly two decades later. I fail to see what new ideas they have that could potentially fix some of the big problems we've got.

One of the main issues with the NHS is that they don’t fill out paperwork correctly.

The biggest abusers of the NHS is medical holidays.. especially Americans. They come over with their medical issue and the NHS treats them then not fill out the paperwork to get the money back.

Even with Europeans, with the NHS not filling out the paperwork they are leaving billions on the table.

What a load of total rubbish. The financial crisis started in America, and the New Labour government ran lower deficits than Thatcher did. And the only reason we're "still recovering from [it] nearly two decades later" is because of the absolute and total economic incompetence of the governments we've been saddled with since.

Hmm? Pretty sure it was the American sub-prime mortgage scandal that caused the global financial crisis...

which we're still recovering from nearly two decades later.

Thanks to the failed austerity ideology that the Tories implemented.

but sir, Gordon put an end to boom and bust.

What euphemism have the focus groups come up with for Labour's forthcoming brand of austerity? :D

TBF New Labour generally weren't too bad for the running of the economy, they had their mistakes IMO around selling gold, ruining pension schemes, did they bring in IR35?, Sir Keir seems like he'll be a bit Tory Lite as well so probably a good time for a change and don't think he'll do anything crazy but will be interesting to see how they deal with limited headroom compared to Tony B and co.

Sure… I have ex-colleagues that still work for the nhs… but Google “health tourist or tourism for even more info.

The thing is, the ones that appear on the stats are the ones that are paid for, it’s the ones that are not on the stats are the ones that ain’t getting paid.

The nhs are in a difficult position, unlike in America where they insist on verifying medical insurance first, medical staff here are obligated to treat sick people.

It may be case that people should show ID before treatment; but that opens another can of worms with the British ID card.. and if they are from aboard, insist on them filling out the paperwork.. but it’s an ethical issue.. and a bit difficult if the person isn’t responding. someone that was born in the uk could get refused without ID as they come from a foreign background while someone from a Nordic country could easily be passed as a UK citizen.
