National insurance cut

The nhs are in a difficult position, unlike in America where they insist on verifying medical insurance first, medical staff here are obligated to treat sick people.

In America, they pay more public money per capita on Health care for the UK, and still can't manage to provide universal healthcare.

Also, in America, if you go into A&E you get seen regardless of Health Insurance. Whereas you have to be able to pay to get seen before then, which means that poor people let their diseases progress to the point of crisis which makes treating it vastly more expensive.

Only a complete idiot looks at America and thinks, gosh, wouldn't it be great if we did that.

It may be case that people should show ID before treatment; but that opens another can of worms with the British ID card.. and if they are from aboard, insist on them filling out the paperwork.. but it’s an ethical issue.. and a bit difficult if the person isn’t responding. someone that was born in the uk could get refused without ID as they come from a foreign background while someone from a Nordic country could easily be passed as a UK citizen.

Whilst there will always be logistical problems, the principle itself sounds like it should be relatively straightforward. Id have no issues showing ID before getting treatment for something. Most health tourists won't be unconscious on arrival at hospital.

It just needs a universal system throughout all hospitals and everything tied to a universal national record (British ID card), or a passport or an official immigration document for tourists/migrants.

Then the charging back to home country can happen automatically.

With the right systems it's pretty easy these days to scan in a passport.

And this doesn't mean that people arriving half dead in ambulances wouldn't be treated first whether they have documents or not.

I hope that Bupa care isn't a company funded benefit as it will come to an end just as you likely need it most!
Nope ,but looks like Hunts just given me £14.50 a week towards it ! Oh wait no my council tax increase will swallow that up. Thank god my mortgage is paid up and my rentals are coining it in , oh and I'm 55 in October - hello drawdown and retirement .

Differences aside this has done nothing for the country and more specifically the NHS . I was quite shocked he's done nothing for middle earners ( apart from a little more money to have some sexy time ) and for me he's either planning for the tories to return In 6 years time ( more likely) or has just killed a large proportion of middle England's vote without realising it - fiscal drag will kill any chances of a win this year.

Looks like you are in a very fortunate position (not saying you haven't worked for it!) most won't be talking about retirement at your age and very few will have a pension that will cover private health care into old age mine will almost certainly end as soon as I retire although I'll probably be 70 by then anyway!

I agree it looks like bad electioneering from the Tories even the headline 2p cut in NI will alienate a core block of their vote ie the retired who won't benefit from it, it does however tie in nicely with them salting the earth for all those who follow much like the immediate sell off of the land purchased for HS2 to make sure the project was properly dead and some rich people got to make a bit more profit on the land!

Totally agree . No I just got very very very lucky flipping property , wouldn't go near it with a barge pole now.

I've been the original Tory boy all my life bug i think a fresh pair of eyes is needed.

Sure… I have ex-colleagues that still work for the nhs… but Google “health tourist or tourism for even more info.
I get your point but it's hardly a big issue when you consider the NHS budget is around the £150 billion a year mark, £1.8 billion is a drop in the ocean, that's not to say it should be ignored or attempts be made to recover it.

7000 homes can be built with 1.8 billion per year.
Saving a billion here and there could end up saving 30 billion or more in total.
Sure but maybe start with something that probably wouldn't cost more trying to recover it than it returns, something with a higher number attached to it like the £4.7 billion tax gap.

e: Or how about some of the £125 billion that some people consider to be scandalous spending by the Sunak government.

Hunt is a genius.
They know they have little chance of winning an election so they cut 2p off NI, Labour get into power, realise that the books don't tally up for obvious reasons, have to reinstate that 2p tax cut and then the Tories can scream about how Labour immediately raised taxes, etc. and maybe they can get back in next time round.
I shall look forward to watching this happen in real time.

How do you think politics work?

Frankly, if Joe Public are that stupid…by now, after all the stuff that’s gone down after 14 years of being mugged off, especially since 2016, then we deserve it.

Talk about fool me once. It’s amazing how much the UK adult population hate their children, destroying their future by asset stripping public services that they WILL use at some point or another. For once, just once I hope the we can move past this tax cut, trickle down economic thinking that has never worked and stop being selfish.

Most of the population only see what they want to or what's put in front of them

Lots of elderly people are concerned with the boats and rawanda, that preoccupies them. That and Brexit.
