GPU Prices Suck. This Is What They SHOULD Have Cost

Nice
Me too, I would have normally bought every other next gen.

Went from 1080Ti to 3080 during lockdown.

Missed out 4000 series completely and may even skip 5xxx yet.

Similar to me.

1070 to 3080Ti, have said I will buy a 5090, but it will depend on pricing.

If Jensen takes the mick, then he ain't sticking it up me.

Would love a 5090, my plan is to see how far I can get away with my 3080 before I really need to convince myself I need an upgrade.

At least this time, I will see a performance gain and feel the money spent is worth it.

The problem I have is my wife occasionally games on another PC that I donor my old parts to. That's currently using the 1080Ti so that will be the one that suffers the most.

Thankfully, she mostly uses the PS5 these days and with more and more cross play games, that suits me just fine.

The thing that I find MOST surprising about current GPU prices is how they've remained so stubbornly high. They shot up during the crypto mining boom and have barely settled back ever since!

I'm just skipping more generations than I used to, no point upgrading when the upgrade is even more than the last card for a scant few percent, needs to basically be double the performance to bite at these prices

No games are really pushing me to upgrade either so this year's fun money went on an oled widescreen
At lest that the good thing you can do these days with CPU’s, Gpu’s etc
my 2080ti was released 5 1/2 years ago and I say it can still handle games at 1440 really well,

Back years ago you needed the very latest gpu to even get above 30fps or even the latest SLI setup

People would upgrade to play Crysis, Farcry, or some other big-time blockbuster. Triple-A gaming has been weak for some time now, with indies gaining momentum, coupled with the insane price hikes on GPUs, there isn't much of a reason to go big spender on hardware these days as last-gen will run it all just fine. To be frank, the RX 7000 series and the RTX 4000 series are weak offerings, mainly due to bracket placement(4090 not included here) and pricing of those brackets. It's certainly going to be interesting what the next generation has to offer but a big part of me is very pessimistic.

TNA is right. 5090 will be around £1800.00-£2000.00 easily, maybe more. Prices very rarely come down any more. I have the 4090 and will be using this for at least the next 3-4 years. Maybe missing the 5000 series completely.

Runs anything at 4k, so unless 8k becomes mainstream, I cant see me upgrading any time soon.

True. When Crysis came out or even before with Half Life 2 and Doom 3 it was so exciting upgrading.

These days the pricing and lack of triple a games that I am interested in that move the bar just takes away a lot of the fun.

Also as you say so many great indie games. Been spending a lot of my gaming time lately playing vampire survivors and other bullet hell types on my Steamdeck.

It is honestly making me feel like I could transition to a steamdeck 2 in the future and not bother upgrading my pc at all.

Let's see what next gen cards bring and more importantly what games in 2025 will be like. If I can get away with just using my current card and use DLSS on Performance, that might be a possible route to go.

Yep. Same. A lot less gaming. That makes it less worth it.

So how about £1699? :p

Still nope!

I guess £1500 is my absolute limit for a 5090, and even that is a ridiculous amount, if I'm being honest.

In that case I would suggest you kiss that dream goodbye

A 5070 might fit that budget? :p

Yeah, Really love my steamdeck. by the way have you used remote play on it ? Its pretty seamless. I get a good 60fps with all the bells an whistles turned on and stream at 1080p, this way I get fantastic quality on the deck in the living room. I use it for both PS5 and PC and I even do quite well on BF2042 MP which means the latency cant be that bad.

Nope. Not done that. Not played any games that stress the locally available hardware yet :p

Good to know though. SteamDeck 2 might be perfect for that. Will likely have a OLED 1080p screen so would work out nicely.

Yeh, I'm keeping my eyes open for the second gen handhelds.

Might keep me away from buying a five series GPU.

So you be buying two 5090’s when they get released, one for you & one for the wife :D

I only bought a GPU this generation because my daughter needed an upgrade. I sent her my 3080ti and I purchased a 7900XTX as I'm now running 4k, not that I game that much anyway.
