Locksmith Cost

Haven't learnt my lesson. Had to use a locksmith for a second time (different place). Apparently my lock is a "high security lock" and so isn't the basic call out rate of £60 inc VAT to get in.

Cost me £100 last time. £190 this time to get in plus fitted lock. 90% inflation in 11 years?

Sorry for the thread bump. I'm very bitter atm.

At work I had to drill a few security locks on steel boxes holding cash boxes inside- A HS drill took ages and flattened a Bosch 24v battery - In the end we tried SDS with 5mm drill bit -hot knife through butter.
These boxes no longer exist now.

Who did you work for? The Krays!? :D

Because the punter starts arguing the cost if you turn up and get inside within 30 seconds. Best take your time, drill the lock out etc and the customer thinks he is getting value for money and has no problem paying you the call out rate.

NDE doesn't pay as well as DE (as you can sell stock you have on the van as extra's with destructive entry).

But any smith who's half competent can pick a Yale in under 2 minutes - but the customer will argue the cost/won't pay you once they are inside as they are embarressed it was so easy.
very true, when doing car lockouts we were always told make the job look more difficult or the punters would argue.
only had the problem once 2 am got the guy into his astra and he refused to pay .... so i promply locked the door again with his keys inside. may not have made any money but i was grinning as i drove away:)

I locked myself out a few years ago.

Lesson learnt, keep a spare key in my wallet at all times.

You can always just smash a window, double glazing is pretty cheap to replace and easy on most windows. I bought a new one that cracked and for a 50cm wide by 90cm tall it cost around £45 ordered from a local glass company. Took me 10 minutes to fit.

Do lock smiths even know how to pick locks any more or do they just use bump keys as they are so quick and easy?
Anyone can call themself a locksmith, its not a regulated industry so the majority of them will likely be chancers with a drill.

I've seen the police lockpick someone's door before but it was back in the 90s, no idea if they were just special or something they used to train for.
