I know it's crazy. I remember in the 2002 world cup Danny Mills played every game. In fact 25% of his entire England caps came in that tournament. He was also strong and gave a solid performance every game. All because Gary Neville was injured.

Really not sure why Gareth could think that Trippier was adequate for tournament football.

Been impressed by Guehi, especially how calm and composed he was when he messed up but then resolved the problem.
 
Gallagher for Trent is the most boring option available, typical Southgate. We do not need energy as Rice is there, we need someone controlled on the ball with good passing, Mainoo or even Wharton would be better there.

I'd probably put Bellingham there and play Foden centrally. If he keeps Foden stuck on the wing then he needs to be sacked at half time.

Results tonight mean we are definitely through, however...

Someone controlled on the ball is one of the best on the ball...Trent. What England need to do is get rid of Southgate so he cant keep making him a scapegoat.

It would be just typical Gareth if the rumours are true and just one change (Gallagher for Trent.) We’ve now qualified, players have been poor and apparently are tired, so surely switching out would make sense?
 
It’s ok, we’re through so the pressure is off. I expect peak Brazil in our next game. Gareth can do some more experimenting as well!
 
I think it's a little worrying that someone that close to team selection is leaking info so early. I'm guessing the players themselves wouldn't know at this point?

He seemed to be struggling to find his stride in that position with a few early game unforced errors, versatile player but things don't seem to be clicking with the rest of the team with him in that position - as much if not more a Southgate issue than Trippier though IMO. He (Southgate) doesn't seem to know what to do and if it wasn't for Trippier's experience that side would be a massive vulnerability.

On another note even though Kane poached a goal he looks so bad on the ball it is hilarious and so far more a net negative with England effectively playing 10 men against any decent team, if he is going to insist on playing Kane and Trippier then they need to be working more directly together.

I imagine, as we're through anyway, if we don't win easy there'll be the excuse of experimenting with Gallagher...

If it's the same tactics, ugh.

With the pressure off, surely it's time for Gareth to so call "experiment". At least three changes in personal and maybe even change the formation with more of an attacking intent. He has nothing to lose. We need an upbeat performance to get that spark back into the side which is currently lacking. Give Cole and Watkins a run out.

I'd love to see Gareth actually change something but doubt it. He's to set in his ways to chance anything.

Problem is that every team we play already know how we will set up. It's to easy for them as we never change our system. Even the so called lesser teams give us a hard time trying to break them down.

Gareths problem is that he is a limited coward. He will revert to form as soon as there is something on the line. At this point I think its almost more important to just try and get a decent performance under our belt. Play people in the right positions and stop being so ******* negative. I don't know if our players are knackered but there is little spark out there. Thats the only reason I would rest any of them.
 
I don’t see how the pressure is off. Opposite I think. Media will crucify him if they turn out a Denmark tonight. We could still end up facing Germany too in the next round which we can’t afford to do, we must prolong the inevitable another few days!

With the right tactics and the players in the right positions I wouldn't fear a Germany match.

With our recent setup and tactics the Dog & Duck XI would give us a run for our money.
