Is the LG C4 42” the best option for a 4K OLED monitor ?

4K. 144hz and supposedly god tier image quality ?

I’m on the verge of picking one up for £900 but just want to make sure there aren’t better alternatives in a similar price range.

I don’t really care about it’s TV functionality btw
 
I’ve got the 120hz 48” (CX maybe?) and it’s the best close up work and game experience I’ve had, and I’ve had all the smaller Rog Swifts and so on. Longest I’ve kept, and remained happy with a monitor.

It is indeed god tier IQ at 4k. Hope you have a 4090 to do it justice!

Any of the 32 inch 4k oled 240hz monitors are worth considering too. Msi, asus, dell etc. They support Dolby Vision now too.

You also get burn-in warranty on some of them.

I sold my 42" C2 a few days ago because it was just too big, and I primarily used it as a work monitor. The image quality is very good, but the PPI is quite low once you've experienced 4K on a 32".

I'm using an Alienware AW3225QF now instead which is much more manageable.

Something to think about.

I’d say it’s a questionable choice for a desktop monitor, esp if you don’t want any of the TV functionality. If you want a super large screen it’s very good, but it won’t offer the performance you can get from many modern oled smaller monitors for gaming, productivity, office use etc

Yikes, looking at the specs I’m not sure why it costs close to £500 more than the LG screen !

This was my only worry tbh, it being a bit too big for my viewing distance.

I would consider getting an OLED 3400x1440 monitor but I need a monitor with a normal aspect ratio as I plug my dodgy fire stick into the back for sky sports etc. I currently have the x34s from acer and it always stretches the fire stick image rather than giving me borders… which requires me to then disabled a bunch of features on it in order to change the monitors aspect ratio. It may sound minor but it gets very tedious disabling gsync and low latency etc every time I want to watch sport without a stretched image.

I have it and really like it. You get used to the side really quickly and gaming is great on it.

I'm using a C2. From what I've seen, for the money it's really hard to find something better.

The annoyances for me are that it's still clearly a TV, and does annoying TV things - like flashing banners for some nonsense, not reliably waking up and shutting down with the PC (despite using a the LGTV companion app to automate that). And the Cleartype font issues are a bit of a pain.

But overall, without spending double the money on - say - the ASUS ROG, I don't see what I would want to swap it for. 4K, 120Hz and OLED is great day-to-day.

Most ultrawide monitors should handle non 21:9 aspect ratio inputs more simply than this, without needing to mess around every time. So if you fancy another ultrawide, don’t let that put you off
 
wow C4 already out?

I bought my C3 42" for my consoles and a 2nd PC screen, since new I've used it about 3 hours tops

Thats 3 hours usage in the past 6 months
 
I just pulled the trigger on a 42 inch C4, it's coming tomorrow. Will be flogging my trusty PG35VQ and pretty sad about that as it was ridiculously expensive and now it's worth probably a few hundred quid . The way technology moves on is crazy. Really excited about my first OLED though.
 
Add me as another who is very happy using a LG 42" OLED ( I have the C3 ). Personally, I think the majority of monitor displays are overpriced and represent poor value for money. I don't find the 42" screen too big - my viewing distance is approx. 3 ft. Clarity of text is perfectly fine ; yes, the smaller 32" OLED 4K monitors have a higher PPI ... but it's not a big difference. I use my PC for a lot of productivity, not just gaming and read a lot on it ... my vision isn't perfect ( I don't wear glasses, though ) and I have zero issues. The only slight niggles are auto-dimming ( not sure if the C4 has additional features to turn this feature off ) and requiring to press the on/off button on the remote to switch the display on/off. The latter doesn't trouble me at all.
 
Yes. They're a lot brighter than the various 27-32 inch options as well. They "just work". They have the best support in terms of community etc (because so many of them are out there)
