edit. Oh, and as for games. We already know there won't be any 1st party titles before April 2025. The Venom DLC / Spider-man expansion is probably the next "big" thing in late 2025 - and that's being developed with base PS5 in mind.

Yeh. Without a CPU upgrade, the improvement from the ps5 isn't going to be that wonderful really.

Yup, but by having a 120Hz / VRR capable TV, it usually opens up the option of selecting the 40fps fidelity mode. I think that's what he means - it's my preferred choice when playing PS5 games on my TV ( used it for Hogwarts, God of War: Ragnarok etc ). In that mode the fps is usually steady at 40 fps.

It’ll sell out easily, and will be near impossible to get stock - can imagine scalpers will go wild on it.

I might grab one as I held off on the original (seemed underpowered) but the CPU is still a bit unfortunate.

For me there have been a lot of games this year which really struggle on PS5 which I hope will be resolved on Pro. Jedi Survivor, Alan Wake 2, Wukong, Outlaws, Space Marine 2 etc. etc.

I still think we'll get a state of play before TGS, or a LOT of Sony content at TGS. They need to let the price digest for a week then come back with some more reasons to consider it.

But there struggles aren’t due to PS5 specs it’s due to the developer not well doing it right.

Yes but the two are not linked, if you drop frames below 40fps vrr will no help on ps5.

I used 40fps on tlou but 80ish fps on gow, game dependant for me.
But I agree 40fps fidelity modes are a great happy medium.
 
As others have said, the amount and quality of first party games has been abysmal this generation. Fewer and far between titles produced and I can now see developers hobbling/not bothering to optimise, or even offer the 120hz/40fps option, for the OG PS5 with the Sony shtick to force upgrade to the Pro if you want that true 60FPS gaming. DF and others had also suggested that performance had been CPU limited as opposed to GPU for various titles too.

Unimpressed.

If the do a SD2 with Zen5 and RDNA4, it’ll be a great upgrade and significant performance bump.

Given that people play on their TVs at 4K, the main improvement is likely improved graphics/rendering, but agree that the old CPU is going to limit any sort of frame rate improvement.

This is where I’m at. I feel there is no real place for this console, or presently any need for it.

The pricing this generation suggests Sony have lost touch with their customers.

At that price point for the pro, I’m going to save my money and buy nothing at all, other than maybe a Switch 2, and just get a PS6 when it lands.

Like you, I feel the pro is going to have to do something spectacular to justify the spend. Happy to reconsider my position if and when that happens.

I wouldn't be surprised if PS6 ends up being £1000 lol.
The consoles are going the way of gpus sadly
 
If consoles get closer to 1k they will kill their own industry.

Most players are casual players and I very much doubt the majority can afford to spend that sort of money on a console.

Games are expensive, they take a long time to develop, consoles are getting expensive. It’s a far cry from the high point of the PS2 era IMO.

There’s still some good games out there but they need to make them more accessible not make them less so.

To be honest given Sony are now offering more games on PC I think that’s the way to play lots of them moving forwards.
