I'm leaning towards waiting till next year, for a number of reasons but the main one being how much a ball ache I suspect it will be pre-ordering one.
Vrr on ps5 is 48-120hzTbh I find the 40fps fidelity modes with VRR fine. No point really in spending £700+ to add 20fps that with a VRR Tv is not that noticeable.
Yeah very true, although most vrr TVs offer 120hz so also offer 40hz fidelity modes which are half decent compared to 30hz.Vrr on ps5 is 48-120hz
Yup, but by having a 120Hz / VRR capable TV, it usually opens up the option of selecting the 40fps fidelity mode. I think that's what he means - it's my preferred choice when playing PS5 games on my TV ( used it for Hogwarts, God of War: Ragnarok etc ). In that mode the fps is usually steady at 40 fps.Vrr on ps5 is 48-120hz
Honestly, Steam deck is brilliant bit of kit and the fact it doubles up as possibly the best remote player for PS5 makes it an extra bargain. Love mine and will definitely upgrade to whatever they do with version 2.It certainly make the next Steam Deck really attractive.
But there struggles aren’t due to PS5 specs it’s due to the developer not well doing it right.I will get one day 1, it's probably £100 more than I expected but still worth it imo. Ultimately the Pro models account for what 10% of the sales, maybe 20% and I can still see them hitting that with this.
For me there have been a lot of games this year which really struggle on PS5 which I hope will be resolved on Pro. Jedi Survivor, Alan Wake 2, Wukong, Outlaws, Space Marine 2 etc. etc.
I still think we'll get a state of play before TGS, or a LOT of Sony content at TGS. They need to let the price digest for a week then come back with some more reasons to consider it.
Yes but the two are not linked, if you drop frames below 40fps vrr will no help on ps5.Yeah very true, although most vrr TVs offer 120hz so also offer 40hz fidelity modes which are half decent compared to 30hz.
If the do a SD2 with Zen5 and RDNA4, it’ll be a great upgrade and significant performance bump.Honestly, Steam deck is brilliant bit of kit and the fact it doubles up as possibly the best remote player for PS5 makes it an extra bargain. Yeah fully aware of this, although most 40hz game modes I have tried generally keep it there.Yes but the two are not linked, if you drop frames below 40fps vrr will no help on ps5.
I used 40fps on tlou but 80ish fps on gow, game dependant for me.
But I agree 40fps fidelity modes are a great happy medium.
Given that people play on their TVs at 4K, the main improvement is likely improved graphics/rendering, but agree that the old CPU is going to limit any sort of frame rate improvement.DF and others had also suggested that performance had been CPU limited as opposed to GPU for various titles too.
Unimpressed.
Would be all over that. Ryzen Z2 extreme looks good for it.If the do a SD2 with Zen5 and RDNA4, it’ll be a great upgrade and significant performance bump.
Yes the way digital is increasing it won’t matter to most that there is no drive. I can afford this as I am lucky that my wife and I have disposable income but at £700 I feel that is too high for, well we don’t know yet how that will translate to performance of what’s already out there nor what is to come. Happy with my PS5 until something can convince me that the PRO model is such a big upgrade that I have to have it. We will have to see but I’m not going to buy it at that price just for the sake of the thing.
I wouldn't be surprised if PS6 ends up being £1000 lol. This is where I’m at. I feel there is no real place for this console, or presently any need for it.
The pricing this generation suggests Sony have lost touch with their customers.
At that price point for the pro, I’m going to save my money and buy nothing at all, other than maybe a Switch 2, and just get a PS6 when it lands.
Like you, I feel the pro is going to have to do something spectacular to justify the spend. Happy to reconsider my position if and when that happens.
Maybe although I suspect the mass market item will be cheaper, much like the PS5. I guess it depends on how well the pro sells.I wouldn't be surprised if PS6 ends up being £1000 lol.
The consoles are going the way of gpus sadly
My other fear is, Will they make base PS5 games look terrible to entice people to The Pro?
If consoles get closer to 1k they will kill their own industry.
Most players are casual players and I very much doubt the majority can afford to spend that sort of money on a console.
Games are expensive, they take a long time to develop, consoles are getting expensive. It’s a far cry from the high point of the PS2 era IMO.
There’s still some good games out there but they need to make them more accessible not make them less so.
To be honest given Sony are now offering more games on PC I think that’s the way to play lots of them moving forwards.
