I agree with the sentiment, but no "secrets" can happen as Sony is beholden to investors & shareholders. We know precisely what is coming down the pipeline for the next few years. Any surprises would have to be from 3rd party developers.

PS5 personally has been an absolute disappointment - it's essentially just a "Super" PS4 Pro. There's been no real innovation in games this generation - and why would there, when most games are just upscaled PS4 ports.
I think that's what's doubly disappointing with the PS5 Pro announcement - the fact there's been nothing new announced to play on it, and that you're expected to just replay all your existing PS4 and current PS5 games over again with maybe a few minor enhancements in either framerate or graphical quality, whilst paying through the nose for it.
I'm guessing both will run the game at 30 fps, with the Pro offering a higher dynamic resolution ( "with better background detail" - Garth .. err Mark Cerny Sept 2024 ! )
You’d have to be a full on mentalist to pay double or more for a PS5 Pro, but people said the same about £2K for a GPU.Well, the likely scenario is these are hoovered up by scalpers and sold for triple the price! Which of course, people will pay.

I don't really even play games any more but I was still planning on getting one even if it was just for GTA 6. Here's hoping that by then the pricing will have dropped somewhat, but I doubt it. But at this price, I'm out, so I will have to play it on my regular ghetto PS5 or Series X.
I kind of get the pricing since GPUs aren't cheap and even the cost of the regular PS4 hasn't really gone down much in the nearly 4 years it's been available, likely due to the cost of everything else going up too. It sucks, but it is what it is.

All the companies that create the unique fun games get bought by the larger companies and shut down so they can concentrate on their AAA multiplayer games that barely change from one year to the next.
EA, Ubisoft and the like are the issue imo.

I’m not super techy, so can anyone explain the rationale of not improving the CPU in the Pro? Seems like an own goal for an enthusiast grade console?
Could they have overclocked the current CPU to at least offer some gains there?
I haven’t built a PC for over 10 years and I’ve lost touch with technology but generally the idea was to avoid bottlenecks in performance be it RAM, CPU or GPU.

I've read the argument that a PC of equv spec would cost more, that is the "value", good value tech in a box when compared to a PC. And of course the argument for PC is that a PC can do a lot more, and also you will also need Keyboard and mouse and a monitor.
The biggest issue here is the games, if people are going to compare this is a better value to a PC for the same money spec for spec, then game for game. The catalogue of games available to play on a PC is so much larger. So this digital only, Sony online shop only, console has a rather limited selection of games.
That is the big issue for me. More money, fewer games you can play on it. A good value box of silicon is not good value when there are less things to play on it.

Yes but in the US there is sales tax on top which takes it to around $750 or £575 ish. Still £125 cheaper than here, but our VAT is 20% so without VAT it's more like £560 which is actually not far off the £535 pre-tax price in the US.
It sounds like I'm trying to defend the price here when I'm really not, but unfortunately VAT in the UK/EU countries just makes it this way.

I think what you’ve said there is really the main issue
I’m not really that concerned about the pricing though I think for the money it should have included a disc drive.
My main gripe is the abscence of any new games which use the console to provide new features and effects. They’ve picked a load of old titles and touted the fact that you can now run them in 60fps instead of 30fps.
Nobody is going back to replay the last of us, ratchet and clank or Horizon just because the frame rate is slightly higher now!
You need new hugely improved titles to sell customers on the idea of upgrading to a new £800 console and Sony didn’t show us any!

They have boosted the clock speed of the CPU by approx. 10%. So performance will be a smidge better, but not a lot. It's still a relatively old CPU compared to what is available in the PC space ( Zen 2 vs Zen 4/5 ). The most impressive upgrade is GPU, which according to Mark Cerny will give up to 45% better graphical performance. But the problem with graphics is diminishing returns ... we're at a point with graphical fidelity where an absolute tonne of horsepower is required to provide an appreciable uplift.

This. I'm not going to go back and replay Sony games from the PS4/early PS5 era that I've already platinumed, just so I can "marvel" at slightly better graphical fidelity or an improved 60 fps mode. If I was that way inclined, I'd rather just buy the games again on Steam ( for a much reduced price ) and play at an even higher performance. New consoles need new games to justify their existence, that leverage their capabilities/features/performance. Without that, it's a tough sell for most people.

Mate, if Playstation is your primary platform, you had your heart set on it, and you can afford it ... don't let grumpy old gits like me put you off getting it. But I would still advise holding off at least another 6 months to assess what games are coming out that will take advantage of it ( my suspicion is very few ; most developers want to reach the largest audience and that means catering for PS4 / base PS5 users ). I honestly don't see the rush to get a Pro until at least GTA6 is about to launch, or unless you have a backlog of Playstation games that will take advantage of the new hardware.

It likely will sell out because stock numbers will be a lot lower, Sony aren't going to be producing the same numbers of the pro that they would have the PS5 at launch.
I'm doubtful. People can buy the black plates for the Pro model.
