Seems pretty expensive and it seems unclear what the actual point of it is; different if they were able to say here we've got GTA 6 on it and it ***** all over the PS5 / Series X but it doesn't seem like there's anything like that yet anyway.

Yeah, I was actually all set to buy the system and now after watching that I’ve come away questioning whether it’s actually worth it!

Guess I’ll wait until nearer release and hopefully there will be more details about it and information about new games and updates for existing titles.

Disappointed by what I’ve seen so far though.

I'm currently console-less (Switch doesn't count!) as I build a decent gaming PC a couple of years ago but for all I play I've been kind of looking to see what a PS5 Pro or Xbox Pro would offer as it would just be easier really - but currently I'm too pretty disappointed by that PS5 Pro - seems a bit of a mis-step from Sony at a time when console wise at least it seems they are massively on the front foot v the Xbox.

I'd be completely sold if this improves PSVR2, but I cannot see Devs going back to patch games for a niche console and headset.

Regardless, extra bells and whistles look nice, I am a sucka.

It is for work the 3090 NVLINK/SLI setup... as they were purchased for that... Console is for gaming in a locked walled garden in the case of SONY..

One I make money my income on, one I throw money at for entertainment .. You are defending a doubling in price from the PS5 SLIM model with a optical drive, for the PS5 PRO model with an optical drive...

Where in the past ps4 slim was £250 and PRO was £350 and with a game.

Do you not see the problem ?

I'm defending the fact that different tiered products exist and no one is forced to buy them.

It might be frustrating being priced out of something and if I was a teenager or someone with limited income it would suck. But if I want a ps5 pro I'll have to just stump up the cash or just accept it's not for me.

The problem is many things have gone up in price in recent years and sometimes above inflation. A base ps2 would probably have cost £550 in today's money so an enthusiast level console was always going to be a jump.

I don't think £700 is a good price, I think £600 would have been expected. But at the same time I don't feel too passionately about it. No one is forcing me to buy it.

The bit that is of interest that hasn't been covered in any details (that I can see) is the PS5 Pro Game Boost. This specific sentence in the PS Blog touches on a feature not really mentioned in the main presentation.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games.

Having owned the PS5 and Series X it is one of the areas where the Microsoft console tends to lead. Games often have One X enhancements that mean certain games just run better on the green side. For example; Ghost Recon: Breakpoint - was patched with a 60fps mode on PS5 & Series X but is limited to 1080/60 vs. 1440/60 on the Series X. How much work is required from the developers could be crucial to whether this feature is even utilised by third-party devs.

Also everyone is taking about GTA 6 on PS5 Pro but Rockstar have a bad record for supported enhanced hardware. GTA V never got a One X/PS4 Pro patch and RDR2 never got a next-gen patch either. Unless maybe this new marketing deal with Sony does have some contractual obligation for supporting the new pro console.

Some people are comparing this to the PS3 launch’s pricing.

If they have a killer game to kick this off I think it’s fine but it seems all the games they were showing off have been out already. I don’t think I want to play Last of Us again…

The only thing is GTA 6 and I’ll just play it at 30fps.

Don't fall for the hype, it's the same thing that's been present since day 1 on the standard PS5

All of those examples given in that article were developer's specifically adding in extra modes for frame-rates etc. So adding those changes in. But PS4 Pro did have a game boost mode that you could enable in the system settings to try and 'brute force' games to 30fps, i.e. Just Cause 3 - which struggled to hold 20-25 fps on the normal PS4. And required no developer support. It was just very hit and miss.

The messaging on this feature isn't entirely clear at this stage. If it requires developer support and isn't something that can be enabled via a setting, that may limit the usefulness or take-up.

If you get a magnifying glass out, some of the textures in the background of your PS4 games look better

I know plenty of folk who would actually use that as justification!

Wait for Digital Foundry reviews as this is how they will sell £700 is great value.... Honestly after calming down I realised my first reaction is right and it is basically Sony really giving the middle finger to its customers that want to upgrade or even get into the Sony Ecosystem. Sorry this is worse than what they tried to pull back in the PS3 release days and the ridiculed price back then and they had to make many PS3 models at reduced prices to get even anyone to buy one, the PS3 only became a success in the end of its life, during its release it failed badly and Microsoft didn't help Sony too with a better and easier device to develop on.. PS3 was a horrible device for developers and had hardware that was really hard to get the performance out of, not because it was underpowered but incredibly difficult to program on to access all the power it had.

This feels like PS3 all over again...

PS1,PS2,PS4 amazing generations from the start... PS3 right at the end saved itself with the Sony exclusive games that later got remastered or updated anyways to PS4.. PS5... PS3/PS4 games updated again for the PS5 and hardly any new exclusives.

The only reason I want the PS5 PRO is to have the ability to play ps4/ps5 titles at better quality and performance than the previous devices.. BUT not at £800 to get a PS5 PRO with optical drive.. I paid £350 for a PS4 PRO with TLOU2 which was a brand new game that was released at that time.

Now they want to charge double with a device with no optical drive... sorry no... £550 was a sensible price for this with an optical drive... Anything more would need justifying with another controller or some AAA new game or something else.. Feel sorry for Mark Cerny as at the end of the day it is Sony that stuck the stupid price on this and I really hope this doesn't put him off the console market and helping Sony develop the hardware.. Without him these devices would have had worse specs for sure. Anyways...

The consumers showed what they were prepared to pay for consoles during COVID when PS5's were being sold regularly for £800+.

It's no surprise to me that Sony are testing the water by releasing the Pro with an RRP of £700.
