I've just ordered this board, and saw a couple of others in the 9800X3D CPU board thread have done so as well, so here we go!

Drivers should be bundled on a USB Thumb drive with the board, nice! A good tip from one of the reviews: The UBS thumb also has BIOS on it, so keep the thumb in the box and don't use it for anything else in case you need to use flashback.

One of the features I'm looking forward to exploring, with an eye on 9950X3D ;) is the PBO temperature target profiles in the BIOS, you can see this in the kitguru review around 8:20 or so.

I like that it has easy install/release mechanisms for the main PCI slot and all the m2 slots, this seems to be more and more popular from board vendors.

What features are you looking forward to?

I bought one on launch (to replace a faulty x670E), and it booted up immediately with the 7800x3D and EXPO on. The install with the mechanical, practical features was a breeze. The new bios is "cleaner" and easy to use. Very pleased.
 
What memory are you guys recommending?
Im looking to go 64GB and was thinking CORSAIR DOMINATOR TITANIUM RGB DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 AMD EXPO

Just back from a long weekend, mobo, ram etc all still sitting in it's OCUK delivery box from Friday

DPD app update, looks like my CPU will be here tomorrow

Good thread!

My board arrived a week ago, 9800X3D will hopefully arrive this year. Was going back and forth about using as much as I could from current build, or going all new apart from GPU, since I take a few weeks to get everything built, installed and setup my games (flight sims take days and days), and I only upgrade once every 6-8 years, I decided today to go all new, so new M2 drives, AIO cooler, PSU, fans and a 011 Vision case (arrived today). Will have most of it build in the next 2-3 weeks, then just waiting on the CPU. RAM is low risk...G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB, 2x 32GB, CL30. This build is more about default speeds and visuals, rather than tinkering. This is replacing a 8700k, should see a diff

Received my board today,

RAM wise I have gone with CORSAIR DOMINATOR TITANIUM RGB DDR5 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 AMD EXPO

Its got great timings so thought i'd give it a shot, also got two of the blanks for the two empty slots, basically gives the appearance that 4 slots are in use, they are complete with matching RGB, quite like the look of the RGB on the Titanium sticks.

Case wise I have the HAVN 420 VGPU love it!!

So just got to play the waiting game on a CPU now.

Rest of my specs are all high end, this is replacing a 14900k :D I just fancied a change! So I can wait on a CPU, not paying scalper prices that i've seen on the bay!!

GPU is a RTX4090, will possibly replace that with a 5090 when available as I game at 4k on a 48" OLED.

I forgot DDR5 has a training period! Saw a diagnostic light and code 15 on the mobo for a while, started to worry. The diagnostic LEDs are split into CPU/DRAM/VGA/BOOT. I _think_ they may have different colours, this was yellow on the DRAM while Code 15 was showing.

So just booted and installed a few drivers... Basically slapped in the RAM, Set Expo profile and ran the Windows installer.

Fresh Win 11 Pro 24H2, once windows had rebooted the MSI installer popped up (had the supplied thumb drive in, but also saw some BIOS feature which I'll come back to that mentioned drivers).

MSI installer tool has cpuz and Aida Extreme, some crap (norton and something else I forgot, deselected those), drivers, MSI Centre (which I chose to install), desktop wallpaper...

It's donkeys since my last build, I think in 2018 I bought Win 10 for around £30 from some website, I see plenty Youtube builds with links to similar deals, what are you guys using to get Win 11 pro (24H2) version at a good price?

And regarding the BIOS update, since this is my first MSI board, is it like ASUS ie. download the BIOS on a USB drive and update?

I'm switching from Intel to AMD, tried it a while back 3800x and I wasnt impressed at the time, but I believe things to be different now.

I have two Windows Pro keys, I originally bought them from an after market site that re-sells keys (so they were cheap). It's a grey market, in some jurisdictions these are not transferable, but they are legit keys none the less. I bought them for Win 10, and I just update the currently used device through Windows activation when I have a hardware change.

I was on an AM4 system with a 5950x, Zen 3 was when I decided Ryzen was mature enough for me to swap over. I've used AMD in the past (a long time ago in the Athlon era), then Intel again, but the high core count of the 5950x was the clincher for work related use.
