MSI MPG x870e Carbon WiFi Owners

Yep sure did :)

2x Corsair Vengeance 6400, Just trying to sort out this mouse issue in the BIOS now.

Then to setup my raid set with the M.2 drives 3x 2TB WD Black SN850X's Just going to use Raid 0 for capacity, this will be my gaming machine so nothing important on it.

Used slots 1, 3 & 4 as I believe slot 2 (sure I saw it somewhere) would reduce PCIE slot 1 to x8
Yep, the one to avoid is M2_2, nothing springs to mind about the mouse, other than maybe the dongle/receiver is sensitive to USB gen type?

Wow!! Forgot what a faff setting up raid on an AMD board is!
3 drivers to load in a specific order! Its coming back to me though!
Getting there now!
Ah yes, I gave up on system hardware raid a while back as I found it a little bit inflexible. Don't really need it for windows + games on my 4T Samsung, 600G for EFI/Windows/Linux partitions the rest as a data volume to preserve games/drivers/installers etc between windows reinstall

I software raid (1) the other two 980s in Linux for container/VM images though as it would be time consuming to rebuild them all, I _should_ punt the images to the Synology box to be honest as I'm doing next to nothing work related on this *cough* workstation *cough* anymore ;)

I take it S.M.A.R.T. reports are OK for both drives?
Hey

Yeah WD Dashboard gives all 3 drives a clean bill of health.

I usually run the three in raid 0, im not worried about the data on them, gaming machine nothing work/important on here at all.

Will carry out another clean install with the new RAM which has just arrived and see how it goes.

Next question, last time I had an AMD chip was the 3800 and you installed an app for PBO, is that still the case?

Cheers

You can test with Ryzen Master aye, haven't installed it myself yet... Just did a quick -40 curve +200 Mhz boost override in the BIOS earlier to check temps but an OCCT combined ram+memory test wasn't happy so I've just reverted the CPU to stock settings until I've got more time to figure out what this CPU is stable with.

Most parts are now here so started to build, 1st problem, once I had most parts installed, I tried to peel the plastic off the IO cover, the main dark matt part plastic was completely under the plastic part on the left, during the build, they must have covered it, then put the plastic part on the left over it, and put a plastic cover over that too. I carefully pulled the cover off and out from underneath, but the last part stuck under.

Looking at this vid, at 38s, it's a once piece cover over the top, not like mine was.

I can gentle pull the plastic up but don't want to break it, or should I just remove the board and see if I can get a but more space, or maybe that part comes off when the board is removed? I am lazy and don't really want to take it out unless it will help!!

I hate that plastic. MSI put it on a number of their boards.

On the Z790 it was attached by screws. I had a look at removing from the x870e and it seemed to be pulling up the MSI dragon with it.

If you find a way to remove it let me know as well!

Just to add the peel only went part way under the plastic strip on mine.

I have a tiny bit left of the plastic peel as well, I just left it as my glass panel is tinted and I can only see anything that lights up through it

Got it out with a really thin needle, nothing damaged or scratched that I can see so far.

Next thing I noticed is on the large heat cover for 3x M2, it says "MSI Perfomance Gaming", but on mine, the "aiming" of gaming, is not there, like it's faded away or peeled off if there was plastic.....I get OCD and this isn't helping!

Would it bother you?

Aaaahhhh I want to register the board with MSI so I can request the missing thermistor cable, product registration requires a "CHK" number, which is apparently on the board serial sticker, which is on the back of the board

If anyone reads this and hasn't installed their board yet, can they see what the CHK value is (3 characters) on the serial sticker? I'm assuming this is release version specific, like a Dell support code, so it should be the same across all these release boards.

Mine is on the MB power connector, no need to remove the board.
