Amazon Refund - Customer Services Useless

Another update

Ive now received an email...

Payment plan complete

Hello J,

Thank you for choosing to purchase your product using monthly payments. We thought you would like to know that you will not be charged for any more payments on this purchase x. We also wanted to let you know that any outstanding balance on this purchase has been waived.

Payment plan summary

Order #
Order total £x
Remaining balance £0.00

I paid originally using the pay in 3 method. This was settled in the 3 months after pirchase a year ago. Reading the above, it sounds as though they've cancelled the plan, which already had £0 outstanding. I'm not optimistic that I'll receive a refund, but I'll give it a day or two and phone back again.

Edit

The payment plan on the original order now says ...

Order refund pending
An order refund is currently pending. Please allow 3 to 5 business days for it to be posted to your original payment method.

This makes me a little more hopeful!

Edit 2

Refund email now received. Looks promising. :)

I've never once not got what I wanted from Amazon webchat.
Same - I had a hard drive start developing bad sectors recently and because it was in my NAS, I bought a replacement straight away and then when it arrived, I contacted them via live chat. Even though it was well out of the return period, they could see I'd bought a replacement so just booked me a return for a refund. I dropped it at the post office the next day and had an email that evening telling me the refund had been processed.
I returned a £6 audio cable today, by the time I got home and sat at my desk, Amazon emailed me saying the refund has been issued.
I've returned stuff to them via the post office and I've had the refund email come through before I've even got back in the car!

Their returns have seem to have gotten much worse recently. I returned the new Kindle Scribe as the UK version does not have any of the AI features..
For smaller items as @mrk says its an immediate refund as soon as the Evri label is scanned, but for the scribe it took over 2 weeks to refund. I suspect this is because people were sending back bricks and other crap instead of the item and getting a refund.

The hard drive I sent back and got an instant refund was £250. I've never had any delays on refunds, no matter how much the cost.

Wonder if they have certain categories for refund on items, this was a refund to my CC rather than amazon gift card balance

Your return is confirmed.

Drop-off: You can drop off your return by Jan 6.
Location: Any Participating Evri .

We will issue your refund within 14 days after we receive your return. In some situations, refunds may take longer. Once we issue your refund, it may take up to seven days for the refund to be credited to your original payment method.

It is totally dynamic and dependant on near real time-ish data on user, product, location, delivery driver etc. Amazon isn't ran from an Excel with hard coded rules

Amazon refunds have been fine for me and ive refunded a lot because ive bought a lot from them, still going to buy my PC next year from OC though I prefer to go to a specialist and OC refunded the 1 time I used it fine.

Just a note to conclude this.

I have now received the refund.

I don't know why it was so drawn out or difficult, but it seems as though the key was speaking to someone who understood the issue I was having and them pressing the right button/progressing the script to the right team. Presumably a case of "computer says no".

I had an issue with amazon. Bought a 14900k and decided to return it unopened.

Amazon claimed they received the wrong item back and have conveniently destroyed it. (Basically someone in amazon nicked it)

Wouldn't refund me at all etc etc

Filled a chargeback with my credit card provider with all the evidence and won the case..

Absolute crooks..

Working in distribution/logistics the amount of theft and apathy towards it in recent years is annoying and astounding me - I know one company recently had approx. 30 grands worth of iPhones disappear in transit, they just ate the loss (not sure if insurance), took details but no investigation, no police involvement - almost makes me wonder how far up the chain it goes. And that isn't an isolated incident.

Amazon refunds have been fine for me in the past… I don’t return much, but if I use a drop off point where they verify the item, the refund is pretty much instant. If I use a locker there’s a small delay for the item to be verified.

This thread isn’t really about a refund, but a repair and manufactures are responsible for the repairs, so no doubt they will take longer. If it was an Amazon item, I have little doubt that Amazon would just send out a refurbished or new replacement, but if it was a different manufacturers, they would need to send it back to the manufacturer and confirm that they.. themselves would get the refund before issuing a refund.

Not applying that the fault was a customer induced issue.. but having worked in a laptop repair workshop, the reported symptoms of “no display” which turns out to be a cracked screen, “keyboard not working” turns out to be coffee over the keyboard, “wifi not working” ends up being WiFi switched off.. the list is endless..

My pc ram went up the spout in November and I had a painful 6 weeks RMA... I abused Amazon twice buying ram and returning it to cover that rma time.
I honestly love Amazon. I guess we mostly deal with DE as Amazon SE isn't huge yet but they are excellent. Free shipping /free returns that don't even need me to print a label just take a qr code to the post office.
It's slower delivery than most companies here but that's fine
They once had a deal on cat litter 10kg boxes X10... Delivery free to my door.... Lol. I mean seriously in Sweden that is unheard of the free shipping race to the bottom hadn't really taken off yet thank god.
Anyway i love Amazon Prime.

Amazon returns are good if their system works well.

I think their customer service as gone worse over the years.

They have definitely tightened their belt, but still way above anywhere else I have ever used.

The only time I've had a poor result is when I bought a 5800X3D from a Warehouse Deal (£179 Like New)...

...when it arrived, the processor was absolutely covered in thermal paste, obscuring the print. It turned out to be a 5800X, not the 3D version.

I took photos and got onto the web chat to ask if I could send them in and return the CPU, which was accepted.

I returned the CPU via Evri, but over a week later, I got a notification that my account had been "flagged for fraudulent activity".

Again I spoke to an advisor on web chat, who accused me of returning the wrong processor - I explained that was exactly what the original buyer must have done and the returns centre didn't check it well enough (and just returned the CPU into Warehouse Deal stock).

They refused to refund the purchase unless I sent in the 5800X3D, which I obviously didn't have.

Got in touch with Starling, sent them the photos and copies of the web chats & emails and they put in a chargeback request. Amazon didn't even respond to the claim, so I got my money back and paid the extra for a brand new 5800x3d from OCUK.

I won't buy warehouse deals again, as it's blatantly too easy for scumbags to scam and Amazon just pass the blame onto the next unwitting customer.

i always return stuff from the post office to amazon and so far not had any issues thankfully, the last one was a abu garcia fishing reel for nearly 100 quid and got the refund within a few days of sending it back, then bought a proper made in sweden one, the one i sent back was made in china and broke within a month.

thats scary, when i ordered my old old cpu it was a ryzen 3600 and in the battered box they sent me was a i5 cpu, thankfully web chat sorted it out and gave me a return label then about a week later contacted them again and they said it had arrived back but wasnt processed then issued the refund as they could confirm it was there.
