I hope I choose well.

I ended up buying:

MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI

9800x3d

Corsair Vengeance EXPO 64GB (2X32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz

Even though I usually buy Gigabyte, I noticed over the years of owning my X570 Aorus Elite that MSI was generally the fastest to get the latest bioses out.

So even though the X870E Auros Elite aesthetically looks better and has a better bios (which I am familiar with) I opted for the MSI.

Gigabyte tend to leave bioses in beta for ever.

msi have always been good to get new bios out, mine which is b550 tomahawk had one in December just gone, yet its probably 2+ years old now

For the handful of users who went from a 7950x3d to a 9800x3d do you need a format or not?

I remember going from a single CCD to Dual CCD CPU that a format was advised.

I've got the same mobo arriving today, and 9800X3D next week. I originally opted for Corsair memory, but heard stories of potential issues with compatibility and the Corsair RAM wasn't on MSI's QVL.

I opted for for Kingston FURY Beast 64GB DDR5 RAM (KF560C30BBEK2-64) instead, which should also arrive next week.

Thats the RAM I have arriving today for my new 9800x3D build.

Yes. Unfortunately every time I've bought Corsair ram in the past I've always had issues on AMD.

Also had no issues here, Using a Gigabyte X870 Eagle, 9800X3D and Corsair C30 6000mhz ram.

I did check before hand to make sure it was on their QVL list to limit down any issues with it not booting\long boots etc

This is actually one thing that makes me nervous about waiting and going for the 9950X3D, once I go dual CCD I'll need to reformat if I want to go back.

Thinking of upgrading my aging threadripper 2950x and x399 mobo to a 9800x3d and x870e board due to issues with my new RTX5090 (will only boot with pcie gen2 speed enabled).
I was looking at the msi x870e tomahawk, gigabyte x870e aorus elite or asrock x870e nova. Does anyone have experience with these and the 9800x3d?
I’ve heard the hotspot on this cpu is offset slightly, is there enough room on these boards to offset the cpu cooler enough ( I will likely be using an alphacool core 1 block ).

Was hoping to hold off a little longer before upgrading the cpu, ram & mobo but the 5090 issue is forcing my hand.

Went from a 3900x to a 5800x3d reinstalled the chipset drivers and job done. Was on windows 10 if that makes any difference.
