anyone upgraded 5800x3d to the 9800x3d?

what res, what gpu and what games.. there is a lot of variable's in that question
1080p will show the best gains but I dont use that. I suppose 1440p makes the most sense as 4k is gpu only almost. The gains in 1% low would be the most useful info and over a range of games, but mainly AAA’s

So for people asking the question whether this is worth the upgrade (which includes myself).

I found something last night that answered my own question.

Even at 4k upgrading to the 9800x3d can give you big gains because at 4k we generally use DLSS (or some other upscaling technology) there for the games we play are actually being rendered at a much lower resolution and this is where the 9800x3d really shines and shows it's uplift vs the 5800x3d.

with out without DLSS because of the very slow clock speed of the 57/5800x3d, you will see an uplift moving to a 9800x3d at 4k. but you would see the same sort of uplift moving at a 14700k or a 7700x because of the much higher clock speed and single core performance.

Yeah, Nvidia seems to palms off a lot of work to the CPU.

I have the same question, I was going to treat myself to a 5090 for my 40th but as they are as rare as a rocking horse poo poo, a cpu/platform upgrade is on the cards.

Running 1440p ultra wide on a 3090 so I know my gains will be a mixed bag.

What CPU do you have?

Because a 5080 or 5070ti would also be a good upgrade.

Or even a second hand 4080/Super.

Also as you are at 1440p a 5090 is total overkill.

The 9800x3d is definitely a step up from the 5800x3d but if it's purely for high res gaming there isn't really that much of a use case for it but i have noticed a bump in VR in a few titles but none in others so as usual your mileage may vary

It makes things smoother. 0.1% and 1% lows are higher and it keeps the GPU closer to 99% busy.

I compared youtube video , it does make a difference, but there is a fair difference in price also

I'll stick with my 7700 until it's worthwhile to get a last gen AM5 CPU for my board that should prolong life..and at least only paid under £200 for mine

Yea I do the same. But the issue with the internet is there is a lot of misinformation out there.

Try and use only reputable sources.

Gamers Nexus, Digital Foundry, Hardware Unbox and some of the smaller channels such a this guy are good.
