As I said before, LUDICROUS pricing this round. And many people think that.

With 2 grand, I'd buy a new set of speakers for a grand and spend the other half on a holiday or bigger telly.

I'd get far more out of those than a single graphics card for that money. Plus, I don't want to let the likes of Nvidia know I'm prepared to pay that. I thought that when I paid what I considered 159 quid over the odds for this card, I felt I'd enabled them to pull this ****. And I had, even I didn't stick to my guns last time.

This time is VERY different, I have a life away from gaming so not wasting 2 grand on a graphics card is a no brainer.

No, would rather give Audio Technica, Tannoy or LG those funds.

Precisely what I've been on about. I've come to my senses and decided to cancel my 5090 order. I'm dead set now on seeing what 9070xt will hit the ground with in terms of price/performance. Maybe will even eat my words and get a a 5080 once they hit RRP.

In the meantime, I picked up that squat sled I was looking at. It will last me way longer thsn an ephemeral graphics card. It was less than half the cost of a 5090.

See that's another thing Nvidia have misjudged. Graphics cards don't last the 10 years I'd get out of speakers and the even longer time you'll get out of your sled, so there is a tipping point with people like you and me. And we both determine that by weighing up carefully just how much enjoyment we'd get out of what are luxury purchases.

But for some gaming is a hobby because they're enthusiasts and they'll pay those prices, and that's their choice. The other guy who quoted me and asked what I had got totally misunderstood my point unlike yourself. I wasn't criticising his choice and decision to buy an expensive card. It's his money, he can and should do what he likes with it. Plus, if he's coming from 3000 series or below, it's a fantastic upgrade. However, everyone has the right to criticise pricing.

And I WAS criticising Nvidia's pricing. Because that's what's driving all the graphics card pricing. People are getting annoyed at retailers for 'pre-scalping for our convenience'. But I think their mark ups this time are because they didn't make enough on the 4000 series for the amount of hassle graphics card releases are, so they didn't want to make the same mistake this time around.

Nvidia, they're who I'm angry with. And so annoyed AMD have stuffed it up so badly up to now, really hope the 9070xt is 4080 performance level, it'd give the market a badly needed shake up.

So roughly less than 250 total in both drops. I read somewhere else that the other place that fulfill FE models and had that open day thing only had 23 for launch lol.

Apparently one of their employees told someone in the queue. No idea if true but wouldn't surprise me.

If wasn't true I can't see it being more than yesterdays drop. So not many at all in the UK atm.

A decent pair of speakers can last you 10 to 20 years! A great lens for a camera can last a decade. Even the price for so called mainstream Nvidia and AMD cards is not great IMHO.

Well, it looks like there will be a 900w 9070xt, so not all hope is lost. I'm thinking they're angling for something between 4080 and 5080.

I've had a suspicion for a while RDNA4 has a lot of legs in terms of power/performance envelope.

High-end audio gear can change you're life. And by "high end", I don't mean super expensive. £500 can buy a fantastic headphone/DAC/amp setup that will let you hear things in a way in media (music, games, movies) you couldn't hear otherwise.

£200 to £300 can get you a decent pair of Dynamic or Planar Magnetic headphones. SMSL,FiiO,etc sell some fantastic DAC/Amp combos for around £200 to £300.

I have quite a nice amp and speakers that I would like to enjoy… but I have terrible open plan room acoustics… not even 6 ceiling mounted traps can tame it ><

That is why you look at frequency/response curves not subjective listening notes. Plus £1000 will easily get you something nice from Focal,etc which is fairly high end. £1000 gets a rebadged RTX3070 replacement nowadays.

Higher end systems which are 20 to 30 years still work fine(as long as the capacitors and any foam bungs or rubber surrounds don't deteriorate)

Compare that to a £1000 graphics card which in one generation will be feature locked and was really a £500 card tarted up. People always like to mock some of the stupidity we see with Hi-Fi,but it's starting to get there with graphics cards too.
It's even worse because it's a repeating purchase if you want to play new games.

No wonder,Nvidia has for a long time had such large margins. The RTX5070 itself is really an RTX3060 replacement.
