Some people give the appearance of wanting affirmation for everything when if they had any sense they would just keep quiet.

Thinking back to the original 3 to 16 weeks estimate, and the more recent supply info. This whole launch just stinks tbh,

Take the following with a pinch of salt, but the 5080 benchmarks were released very late for no particular reason, the 5080 has always been seen as a bit hopeless for the money and was probably always going to be difficult to shift. The 5090 if available was obviously the best purchase for the sort of money we’re seeing. If the 5090 is not available then a lot of people are going to be tempted with the 5080.

Why would the 5080 start appearing in buyable quantities? Why would the 5090 appear in gold dust quantities?

Chinese new year you say, no manufacturing, but they must plan for that it’s not a surprise.

Oh hang on 5070 and 5070ti releasing soon, well I never, they won’t be far off a 5080.

So personally I suspect they had a load of 5080s that they realised they had to dump. The only way to flog them was to create demand.

All a conspiracy theory or capitalism?

Saw an MSI Trio 5090 drop a bit ago at a low-pro retailer for £2500. Gone in a minute. They are coming in.

Another few 5080s now available at another site, hovering not too far off RRP, and one here for more.

Theres a big difference in console and game prices compared to PC. Plus these new graphics cards are well above the PS5 Pro Spec.

Still console is undoubtedly where the value for money is. I game on PC for the widest selection of games with the best presentation. :)

At this point it would be a conspiracy theory that the entire supply chain isn't using every shady tactic legal (or boarderline legal) to maximize revenue, to heck with consumers and thwir confidence.

nV is undoubtably controlling supply very tightly to not step on the toes of other cards in their line up.

Not essentially. nV knows the demand exceeds supply for the 5090 and they're going to sell them regardless (and DCs will suck up everything else). If they can a least push some of those people who are waiting for 5090s down to 5080s, they're still making a sale even if the margins are lower than GB202. And secondarily, if they can force this sale prior to RDNA4 being released, all the better.

So why not build 2 lines for 5090s and not bother with 5080s at all? Everyone loves a good conspiracy but this one isn't making a great deal of sense. Far more likely they just have yield issues with the bigger gb202 dies.
 
Keeping the 5090 rare also makes people who would not be interested go “wow! what is all the fuss about?! I wonder what the next best thing is noting that I don’t have a Time Machine…”

Not exactly the same though, is it? He's actually using his 5090, lowering it's value, yours was on Ebay within an hour "Sealed and brand new". In fact, the auction was created approx 1 hour after you had posted on here that it was "delivered", then pictures were added 3 hours later at 18:19, which was before you posted the pic on here.

In terms of scalper hierarchy, if the card is listed for sale before you've even held it in your hands, that's worse than using it for a bit then selling, just imo.

The yields will certainly be better on the smaller chips, so its not entirely implausible. Or they are saving the GB202 dies for professional cards because they make way more profit than 5090's.

Totally entitled to that opinion of course. But for something with less than 50 units in the UK, opening was determined (by me) to be too big a cost for little gain.

You don’t need to explain yourself. Many sensible people would have sold it for that much profit. I know I would.

On the other hand I would never pay £2k extra.

Instead of blaming the seller, why not blame the people that pay these silly prices?

This does not make you untrustworthy or a bad person in any way.
